Feels like everyone around me loves to cook, talking about smoked meats, dishes, deserts to prepare, etc. I guess after years of reality TV cooking shows influencing a lot of people.

Obv as an adult I do cook for myself, but it's the bare minimum and it's not an enjoyable activity (steak on the pan, frozen peas and corn in the microwave or an oven baked chicken breast). I swear I get more joy out of clean dishes at the end of the night than a prepared meal.

I cook with my girlfriend and that's fine for a couple's activity but that's a bit different.

How many other people hate cooking?

I love cooking but I wouldn't say heating up peas in the microwave or just throwing something in the oven would be fun.

Trying new recipes that aren't that simple is what makes it fun.

I love cooking but I hate feeling obligated to cook for other people. Some people find out you went to culinary school or cooked in restaurants and they suddenly start thinking that its cool to volunteer you to cater parties and all sorts of things.

I like eating but the work is tedious and the time it takes to prepare never feels worth it. I'm content with bad tasting food too so that helps.

Yeah I hate it. I can kinda see the fun in making a big involved recipe once in a while but when you need to eat multiple times per day, the idea of spending hours each day on it just isn't appealing

I mean I did post how I spent like a full day doing that, but that is specifically for special events.

Doing it every day, I don't got time for that. I am fine with ~0.5-1.5 hours though most days (dinner, lunch/breakfast simpler if I have them) but usually like a break even then in the week.

Yeah I think the novelty of new recipes is definitely the biggest thing that I love. Like I'm thinking of new things to try this thanksgiving right now and getting excited about that.

If I make a recipe a ton, like I won't hate cooking it and I still like making it and enjoy eating it, but it's not as _fun_ as something new.

I don't find any joy in cooking and only care about the end result, so I'm fine with premade stuff, be it takeout, frozen, whatever.

Granted, I grew up in a household where nobody could fucking cook. My dad couldn't even grill a steak right and made lousy burgers (my brother, on the other hand, eventually got decent at it many years later). And my mom couldn't even get basic recipes right.

I've lived most my life without a dishwasher to the point where even the few times I've had access to them, I prefer to hand wash. Though in my current living situation my roommates have asked me to use the dishwasher so that it fills up quicker and thus their dishes get cleaned quicker, so I've been using one more lately.

Lol?

What you describe can barely be called cooking. Try some fresh ingredients ffs.

Cooking is enjoyable but clean up sucks it's why it is at times difficult to motivate myself to cook.

I also find it weird that you blame people cooking on tv. TV might encourage people to make fancier stuff but cooking in general is very normal.

I'm at work when I get home I'll tell you some of my favorite recipes that are good and fairly simple.

Ye, I do the bare minimum now but I have cooked and prepared meals in the past. Again, I cook meals with the girlfriend where we cook new recipes with fresh ingredients.

I don't blame anyone, people are free to enjoy what they like. I especially enjoy it when people are passionate about anything ! This can be cooking included. btw why in your first sentence you "find it weird" that I 'blame' cooking on TV but in your second sentence you pretty much agree with my guess and conclude that it's very normal?
