I hate the whole celebrity scene thing. I don't give a shit. I only know celebrities if I really like them, or if people around me won't shut up about them.

Here's a list of literally every living celebrity I can name off the top of my head.

-Brad Pitt (not actually that handsome...)
-Angelina Jolie (she's just, like, an actor or something?)
-Miranda Cosgrove (liked her as a kid. don't know what she does nowadays...)
-Gordon Ramsay (love him.)
-Gabriel Iglesias (hilarious and saw him in person.)
-Jeff Dunham (all-time favorite comedian. also saw in person.)
-Steve Carell (classic.)
-Jim Carrey (also classic.)
-Snoop Dawg (never heard a single song from him.)
-James Wan (favorite director. does he even count??)
-Elon Musk (only learned about what he actually does earlier this year.)
-Kanye West (also never heard any of his stuff.)

There's more I'm semi-familiar with but I can't remember their names right now. Give me the name of a celebrity and I'll let you know if I've ever heard of them.

Tom Hanks -- Can't recall who he is.
John Cena -- I only know of him because of those memes that went around for a while.

Everybody else, probably I've heard of more than I think, but they either aren't important enough in my mind or I have so little idea on what they do, that I can't remember them just off the top of my head.

fair enough...but like...I'm 42. Tom Hanks has been a pretty huge movie star for about as long as I've been aware of cinema.

like...Big? Splash? Forrest Gump? Castaway? even ignoring the past 20 years of his career...he's arguably iconic for like a dozen roles. in recent History, among others he's played Captain Philips, Sully, and Mr Fred Fucking Rogers. I genuinely find it hard to believe anyone on the planet that speaks english and isn't wearing a loincloth daily has no idea who this man is. I don't mean like...we celebrate his birthday like a national holiday or anything, but this man has been in film consistently for 40 years.

Prior to Crowded or whatever, I'd never heard of her. But I absolutely loved her in Crowded and then learned that she had a pretty sizable career before that.

I mean sure, you can put words in my mouth there, but weren't you there humping bags of concrete to build wells or something? Pretty sure it's hard to ignore Tom Hank's existence, even in meme form where there's electricity and indoor plumbing ffs. Wilson? Starting a fire? Run Forrest, Run? Life is like a box of chocolates? I was shot in the buttocks... I'm the captain now...etc. he's as meme-able as nic cage and has been in dozens of better films.

It amazes me how quickly the generations behind me default to "-ist" and "-phobe" at the slightest pushback. Better run to a hall monitor lest you get stuffed in a locker...

We both know what you're doing here, so there's no point in playing dumb. We both know the loincloth comment was meant to evoke primitive people or nomadic tribal people. Electricity and running water are not common outside major cities in Sierra Leone, but that doesn't mean it is a country of primitive, loincloth-wearing people, nor a country of nomadic tribal people. When you say to see your loincloth comment in response to me specifically bringing up another country, a predominately black one, to imply a non-existent primitiveness, then I don't see how it can be interpreted as anything but racist.

Some people just need to be offended all the time I guess.

I don't get the concept of celebrities. I enjoyed something they had done but I don't care about the person. Take a movie actor for example. Cast them in one thing and I like them, cast in another thing and I hate them (or more likely it doesn't occur to me that it's the same person in both).

I have what is now formally called Asperger's and was homeschooled, I also had a major surgery that knocked at least 2 years of education and experience off my life, and back in around 2015-2016 severe panic disorder basically confined me to my house and I only recovered from it completely in like 2018.

So yeah, I don't know shit. Haha.

I know it annoys me so much. Everytime I see an article about what celebrities are up to and their relationships or whatever I'm just like "who fucking cares?". I have a handful of people who I really like what they do, but I don't know anything about their families or whatever. Maybe a thing or two about their career but nothing aside from that.

I do feel kinda stupid sometimes when confronted with all this crap I know nothing about, but in the end I really just don't give a shit.

I do know some of the movies he's been in, like everybody knows Forest Gump. I haven't seen the movies though. But even if I know what he's been in I still don't know him. I don't need to know the names and lives of actors to enjoy or be familiar with their work.

if you've ever heard of Nirvana, i can understand not remembering Novoselic. i can understand overlooking Duff Mckagan in Guns and Roses. If you're a "fan" of Tool, i can understand not remembering Justin Chancellor on Trivia Night.

But not knowing Kurt Cobain, Axl Rose, ot Maynard James Keenan while being aware of their bands strikes me as odd. continuing the Tom Hanks Metaphor...he hasn't been what you'd call a supporting actor since he started acting in films. I can see maybe forgetting his role in "He Knows You're Alone", but he's been the lead or Co-Lead in every film he's been in since his time on the Bosom Buddies Sitcom, and very few of us here can actually claim to remember that sitcom when it was still on the air. It's not like we're talking about a drummer in Frank Sinatra's backing band here or the backup singers in a Motown band. We're not talking about the Drummer in Twisted Brown Trucker, we're talking about Kid Rock.
