I always thought there was potential for an "Artificial" type (though I think it'd more likely be called TOY type or maybe PLASTIC type)

something for manmade-looking things that aren't steel type, like the Porygon line, Garbador and Stufful/Bewear

New pokemon would likely be based on things like action figures, plushes, playdoh, and various other toys

Sound is pretty much encapsulated as a move property, and pure Sound attacks basically form the entirety of Special Normal moves. Plus, a lot of Sound-based Pokemon like Noivern or Toxtricity already have two types that aren't Normal.

Cyber/Artificial/Etc. makes way more sense, though, Porygon not being an electric type has always been odd

Wind. It's the only element the games don't have.

Wind is straight up covered by Flying, though. You make Wind its own thing and Flying loses a lot of moves.

It is odd that it's all just lumped into "flying"

Sound was the one I was gonna say. Seems like the most sensible missing element - I'm pretty short on other ideas. Light, I guess, but that seems less interesting.

Sound is already kind of a pseudotype, with all sound moves having the same unique properties and being affected by the same abilities/moves/items. Given how many sound moves and pokemon there already are, that would be the most likely new one imo. Aside from that, idk. Between Fairy and Psychic you already have Light covered so I guess Mech/Digital would make the most sense, but you'd have to carve out a niche between Electric and Steel for that. Maybe Space or Void or something.

The theory I've always subscribed to is that fighting is the "good" counterpart to dark's "evil," so there's no need for light.

Human is another type they could do, if they do end up making that feature that is talked about sometimes where you are able to breed certain Pokemon with the trainer.

I've always kinda thought of Psychic as "Light" to an extent, although Fairy probably fits that better now.

I do like the Construct/Artificial/Manmade/Digital/Mech idea though

Dark was originally cheating/dirty fighting, making Fighting the good counterpart, which is probably why there was never a light counterpart.

The real question is, what niche would a new type fill? What current types are 'too good' and need a counter?

I think Umbreon/Espeon kinda confirmed that too with Psychic, given that Espeon was just the day version to Umbreon's night

Yeah, I do think they could all fit into one, that's why I suggested TOY type; that just seems like a kinda all-encompassing thing. Mechs could be like Toy/Steel, Clay things could be Toy/Ground, etc.

I worry about like Cyber/Digital because like what was mentioned earlier, that's already very similar to electric

I would support a Wind type being separate from Flying type. They'd have to change a lot of moves (mostly making new ones for Flying because many of the current Flying moves are wind types

Time and Gravity are both neat. I worry they'd be too niche, but then again we have a whole category just for Dragons

Things are a bit more balance since the time before Fairy was added. Dragon was brought down with Fairy though it has emerged as one of the top tier types along with Steel, but I wouldn't say they need to be nerfed
