Yu Yu Hakusho gets runner up until after Dark Tournament Arc.

Dark Tournament is definitely my favorite, but I don't think Chapter Black arc gets the respect it deserves. It was a pretty tight and well written arc except for some ass pulls at the end.

Lol so why you arguing with me then. I read it weekly that's why I said what I said. Dude is OP now (but still somehow lame) so I fear the likes of Bakugo will magically keep up even though they have no business doing so. Unlike other series MHA doesn't have a powerful supporting cast. The top 10 heroes are mostly underwhelming in their series, compared to Gotei 13 and Magic Knights. That's a definite problem with MHA power structure, but it was deliberately set up like that. You had All Might as the symbol of peace and way stronger than the other heroes. Once that pillar fell hero society starts to collapse. So I can't see Deku being nerfed (his current situation will be fixed) because Shigaraki is too strong.

My Hero Academia has its ups and downs, I would still say its a solid Shonen, im my own ratings system I would give it a B.

My favorite Shonens will always by FMA:Brotherhood and Hunter x Hunter. Love Attack on Titan just as much but it doesnt seem like a Shonen. Yu Yu Hakusho gets runner up until after Dark Tournament Arc.

AOT is a seinen. And HxH might as well be one with its complicated narrative and irregular releases. The ongoing succession arc is particularly confusing. I forget half of it and am waiting till the hiatus ends so I can go back and read the last 10 chapters again. Kingdom is better than all these series imo. But I'm stalled hundreds of chapters behind trying to catch up to shorter series.

Dr. STONE is the best weekly shonen and I started that when it first released, now find myself 100 chapters behind. Too much procrastination. The only manga I read consistently every week are One Piece and MHA, and well Black Clover I guess since I restarted that and am not that far behind.

On Wednesday, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. announced that AT&T and WarnerMedia agreed to sell Crunchyroll to Funimation. Though there had been rumblings of the acquisition for a few weeks, it wasnt clear just how the deal would go down or if it would at all. The purchase price for the transaction was estimated by Sony to be $1.175 billion.

Chapter 18 is weird in that it's going into a flashback for Reiji, which is what they usually do for characters who are going to die soon >_> At this point that seems unlikely, considering the whole thing might center around him.

They are not the best but still better than the likes of TOEI. And really BLEACH had the best anime of the old "big 3" by far. The best music, the best animation (generally) and even the filler was watchable most of the time. Unlike Naruto which was also done by SP and was horrible. The good thing with this arc is the manga is already done so there's no need for filler. The only add ons should (hopefully) be light novel stuff at the end so it doesn't suck.

I disagree. Pretty much everything after the soul society arc was borderline unwatchable for me and that was when I was younger and actually really liked shonen. The music was great though.

Also not sure about the best animation claim. Of the big 3 naruto probably has the best. It certainly has the highest peaks and all 3 of em have plenty of bad animation in less important parts. One piece is easily the worst though animation wise.

I agree on Naruto having the highest peaks in animation with the big moments, but I think BLEACH was more consistent. Outside of big fights like Ichigo vs Ulquiorra and Ichigo vs Ginjou it still looked good, apart from some early episodes. Maybe that's down to Kubo's artstyle too. The Naruto filler was unbearable. It was just so much, and so boring. And even the canon stuff was stretched out horribly with tons of unnecessary flashbacks. The manga had lots of that too but they really overdid it. I think the Zanpakuto filler arc was good, Kubo did the designs of them which showed up later in the manga. Bount was bad though I skipped most of it. They also made the Fullbring arc much better than in the manga.

And yeah One Piece had the worst adaptation. The current Wano arc looks pretty nice but before this I never watched the anime outside of some reactions. Even in Wano I only watch certain episodes. Unless you're doing a reaction series there's no reason to watch One Piece before you get to later arcs. Just watch the specials of the early arcs. They released Skypiea special last year and that's the first time I properly watched that arc. It was much better than the original which had horrible pacing.

Fair. For what it's worth, bleach was the only one I actually watched as it aired. I dropped naruto and one piece in like 2 episodes back then. I've since watched a bit over 100 eps of each series and was somewhat pleasantly surprised but I still don't really like either one. HxH is the only battle shonen I think is much good (and it's awesome) but mostly because it doesn't do most of the shonen things.

Then theres some things like kingdom that I'm hesitant to even call shonen. Kingdom is awesome though. Such a shame that season 3 was delayed so heavily although at least it's continuing in spring.

Kingdom can be considered a seinen, I mentioned before I think it's the best manga out right now. I don't read stuff like Berserk though. I never watched the Kingdom anime but its supposed to be infamously bad with CGI and stuff. I'm like 500 chapters behind in the manga because I keep trying to catch up to other stuff (and newer things like JJK and Chainsaw man I need to start). Basically its overload and I read Kingdom really slow because of the plot and war tactics etc.

I only started One Piece like 3 years ago, and that's only after BLEACH ended. It's the only one of the big 3 I had never got into. I tried much earlier but it just didn't grab my attention like the other 2. So I started reading it and actually got into it and read like 700 chapters in 3 weeks. I caught up towards the end of Dressrosa and have been following weekly ever since.

It manages to be good despite that. Whilst the CGI is really bad, it's not jarring, if that makes sense. Like it blends well with the backgrounds, it's just poor quality. It also is much worse at the start and improves pretty significantly throughout the 1st season. Being CG does allow it to demonstrate it's scale quite well. They can easily show units and armies with thousands of people at the same time.

The pacing was pretty good and voice acting is solid. They do a really good job of conveying the battlefield and whats going on in it. Main guy is kind of annoying at first with the typical loud shonen shouting all emotion no brains but it's supposed to be that way. So basically once you get used to the CGI, it's good, of course carried by the story itself being really engrossing.

There's a reason the kingdom anime both have really high ratings despite the visuals.

Season 3 is a different studio and visually it's much better, although the change is very jarring at first but covid delayed the rest of the season from airing. We got like 4 episodes and the next 20 or so come out in spring.

No they're worst than Toei. Studio Pierrot ruins important canon scenes by putting filler characters within those scenes. Their filler arcs also go against canon every damn time.

You got a point there. Again Naruto was riddled with this stuff. I guess I'm being optimistic because they did do a good job on BLEACH (generally) and since the manga is over there should not be any shenanigans. Only thing is that ending, they might pad it out with stuff since it was so rushed.

Honestly can't remember this. It's been so long since I watched it. The only time I recall anything so was between the end of SS and start of Arrancar arc where I believe a couple Bount filler characters were left in at the start. But that lasted like one episode (I think).

I did not feel the pull towards Genshin Impact. Then again, I did not feel the pull towards Breath of the Wild, either, though I do have Age of Calamity.

And I have yet to watch MHA. Most likely because it is the current big shounen series. I will enjoy it more after the popularity dies down. If Game Stop TV is pushing it, it is a thing I need to avoid. I avoid Black Clover for the same reason ... and because I am tired of main characters whose default volume is 11 out of 10.

Crunchyroll just got bought by funimation (who do the same thing) so I'm not sure crunchyroll is going to exist for much longer. At the very least I'd look into it before buying anything.

It also kinda depends on how this niece watches now. From a service point of view, the pirate sites are better (assuming you have a solid adblocker). They have every anime ever on multiple sources with no buffering at the same or better resolutions than the official sites running in better players and all on one website with a better layout. If she is already using those, crunchyroll would be useless to her, it'd just just help support the industry.

Like if someone bought me a membership to every single anime streaming service, it wouldn't change anything for me.

In fact, as much of a weeb as I am, I don't think theres any anime related gift I would even want. Maybe like a cool poster or something.

If she doesn't want to use pirate websties, crunchyroll is probably the best anime streaming service (although it's still not great).
