I used to play Fallout DLC the moment it launched. I think the Pitt DLC had straight up giant floating red ! because stuff wasnt loading. I thrive in jank.

fallout 4 is also pretty janky on modern systems.
something to do with framerate i think. those games just freak the fuck out at computers that can put upwards of 200 FPS and just result in random bugs everywhere.

Witcher 3 iirc was pretty ok at launch. The biggest issue was just it's framerate? I don't remember major glitches.

I could be remembering wrong tho

this DRM is known to hurt performance, possibly interact with other elements of the game.
the game that reviewers have runs worse than retail copies would on the same hardware.

the day 1 patch meanwhile happens after their copies too, so bugs will be fixed. they legit got a shittier version of the game in all ways.

I started playing it, and while it's worth the love, Geralt not being able to drop 2 inches without dying is so fucking annoying. I had the same issue with MGS5.

Glitch wise no, I'm sure a lot of jank got smoothed out over time but overall it wasn't busted at launch. I think the largest complaint at launch that they ended up fixing like a month or two later was how Geralt moved. Don't remember the specifics but I guess he just controlled like shit which made the early game combat much more difficult than it needed to be. But really much like Witcher 3 i'll end up playing Cyberpunk in like 2 months when all the major shit get fixed and probably have a damn good time doing it.

I just fiddled around with it again when I got my Series X, and it was less than 5 minutes to load it up and ride the horse to the character creation.

so yeah. shittier copy.
it doesn't have day 1 applied either so that's a different angle. for AMD systems, probably a bigger deal there since they tend to perform worse at first and the patch might help them more on it.

Apparently that isn't the most recent patch though and from what I've read it runs much better than that on whatever the day 1 patch will be! Not fantastically but playable. Still kind of hilarious to ship a game that looks like that on disc.

I would have included that in the original post but it was only after I posted it that I started searching it up in disbelief.

Torn, because the obvious answer was that the game should have been delayed again, but I wouldn't want to subject the workers at CDPR to even a single additional week of that awful crunch.

It's fun to think that the crunch is over now for them and not still in full gear as they work to continue to fix the bugs and work on the upcoming next gen upgrade.

yeah, this is the game before 2 months of patches and shit. a lot of improvements are to be expected but nobody knows what the state of the game really is just yet. we'll know starting tomorrow.

Game is already shattering records on Steam. A ton of people are still downloading and unpacking the game, yet it's already cracked 1 million concurrent players. That means it's already the most concurrently played single player game in the platform's history, and 4th most concurrently played game period, only beaten by Dota, CSGO and PUBG. (1.29, 1.3 and 3.25 million respectively)

Watching this QL and the open world seems like a mess, but the interior stuff seems fine.

I still just don't understand how shipping unfinished products has become such a recurring thing in the game industry. No other industry does this all the time.

We like, really need to change the culture around delays, which would (or should) also change the culture around crunch. Nintendo still the best in the biz here. "Fuck it, make 'em wait, we'll release Prime 4 in 2024!"

I don't understand so many people feeling the need to buy a glitchy mess day 1 instead of waiting a few months for it to be cleaned up. It's a single player game and I don't think the plot is the draw, but I guess it could still be a zeitgeist thing? IDK, I haven't bought a AAA game at launch in years.

there's plenty who are waiting for the GOTY version in a year or two, which will have most bugs ironed out, DLC, fan patches, etc all included or available anyway.
