Also, I'd like to point out that the Presidency is decided by the states, and the Senate is decided by the states, and the courts are decided by a combination of the Presidency and the Senate. So out of three branches of government, 2.5 of those branches are determined by the states, rather than allowing for representation of the people themselves. If this negatively impacted Republicans, you bet your ass you'd be against it Corrik.

It's just a popular vote then with a certain number of disenfranchised voters for whatever makes you the remainder that doesn't meet 1? Sounds dumb and pointless.

I've read this a few times and I can't figure out what Corrik is trying to say here.

But the "point" is that the house becomes representative again, like its name suggests. 435 is a pretty arbitrary number that wasn't even set in stone until 1929.

If you decide every 2000 voters is a house seat. Then you have 3999 voters. 1999 voters didn't matter.

Where as a state with 4000 voters has 2 seats.

Why would an X number make a difference? If it isn't proportional then at that point you might as well just have straight popularity votes.

At least it's applied equally among all the states rather than certain states having a higher threshold than others (yes it's more complicated than that, but you are also simplifying it)...

Proportional representation will always have that issue to some extent, but it is better than the existing structure which gets increasingly less accurate due to the cap and population growth.

Also I read a suggestion that the smallest unit simply be the state with the smallest population (Wyoming). You'd use that amount for defining the number of districts/reps. Another upside is smaller districts where the rep is more closely aligned with their constituents.

Plus we'd get to used "Wyoming'd" again.

Remember that suspected Russian hack into the federal government I posted about the other day?

https://apnews.com/article/technology-malware-hacking-russia-software-b3f993fb7bc9390302f0df26ecb6c10e

Let's take a look into how that's-

The AP reports...
Another U.S. official, speaking Thursday on condition of anonymity to discuss a matter that is under investigation, said the hack was severe and extremely damaging although the administration was not yet ready to publicly blame anyone for it.

"This is looking like it's the worst hacking case in the history of America," the official said. "They got into everything."

At the Department of Energy, the initial investigation revealed that malware injected into its networks via a SolarWinds update has been found only on its business networks and has not affected national security operations, including the agency that manages the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, according to its statement. It said vulnerable software was disconnected from the DOE network to reduce any risk.

The intentions of the perpetrators appear to be espionage and gathering information rather than destruction, according to security experts and former government officials. If so, they are now remarkably well situated.
.........well fuck

So now in addition to Treasury and Commerce, we can add the Department of Energy as well as "critical infrastructure." to the list. So far. And always comforting when DOE has to put out a statement to say, "Oh no, it was just our business side that got hacked not the nuclear weapons part."

Meanwhile Trump has said nothing about it instead focusing on such important and critical information such as his latest conspiracy nonsense and retweeting calls to jail the GA Governor and Secretary of State.

I am pretty sure a vaccine to make an immune response happen to the coronavirus is wasted and not going to react the same to someone who already has an immune response happen to the coronavirus.

It's pointless and bad optics.

They are recommending you still get the vaccine even if you have had it.

Edit: looked at our hospital FAQ again and basically it says that since some early evidence suggests natural immunity may not last very long so they recommend getting the vaccine if it's been longer than 90 days to be safe.

I shouldn't be the least bit surprised about going to see a Hard Bastard video where one comment insists Biden will only make it to the White House by "some miracle of hell" (how delusional can these people get?), but somehow I was. It feels like there has never been so much anger over an election, not even in 2016, and I think I know why.

The best explanation I can come up with is that there is so much anti-liberal sentiment that might have propped Trump up, and then that combined with the perception, whether accurate or not, that no one is particularly enthusiastic about a Joe Biden presidency, fuels an awful lot of baseless conspiracy theories. I fear for the human race if these people are really in such a bubble they can't comprehend why so many hate Donald Trump.

I was also surprised this morning when I went to the Twitter feed of the actor Robert Davi (The Goonies, Die Hard) and saw him retweeting posts accusing the Supreme Court of corruption and cowardice in throwing out the Texas lawsuit. Excuses, excuses.

i mean it's technically a waste of a vaccine yes. he isn't old enough to need it, he had it, and he's in office for about a month in a lame duck session. hell, he had it so recently that he'll be out of office before the immunity's worn off. the vaccine technically works differently than your body's immune system would with covid so there'll be an effect but it's redundant. on this end yeah it's not useful.

that said, for him personally it's a good look and makes him relevant for future elections and positions in the party. it's a PR move all around on a limited supply he shouldn't be eligible for.

6-3 SCOTUS vote dismisses the challenge to Trump's EO to exclude undocumented immigrants from the census. They explicitly say they're not ruling on the merits but that they're dismissing because the lawsuit is premature because it technically has not happened yet. The 3 liberals dissent from that reasoning and say the policy is unconstitutional.

Now it seems to come down to whether the Census Bureau can put together the data needed to exclude them from the count. They've said they're not sure they can pull it off before Biden's inauguration. If they can't, Biden can simply undo it. If they can then we're in a clusterfuck.
