Been replaying it recently and just got to Origins, yikes...

Asylum is a fantastic game, one of the candidates for game of the decade.
City is a huge step down.
Then Origins is a mess with several parts that boarderline being a bad game.

And the less said about the terrible "In canon" Arkham Suicide Squad animated movie the better. It doesn't even match the tone.

It's such a shame because 80% of meele fighting games after it ripped it off so people replaying it for the first time now will think it's generic despite the being original

I can't agree in the slightest

The story is a complete mess.
The characters are undeveloped and all over the place.
The world map is badly designed and bloated with boring travel commutes.
Large sections of the game are boring or janky.
The voice acting is a step down.
It has 0 new ideas beyond the "crime scene investigation" which replaces "Press X at the dot to continue game" with "Press X at the dot at the right time to continue the game." which isn't so much a gameplay innovation as a time waster.

Fights like Deathstroke aren't fun or interesting. Just dull slow slogs. Compare to fights like Mr Freeze.

Only if you suck balls and are only trying 1 thing over and over.

There's like a dozen or so different ways to attack him. It's a test of what you've learned

IF he's not standing on the vents then use the line launcher or glide

Not sure if you've played Knight yet TC, but I think the hate for Knight is really overblown. Yeah the tank/vehicle stuff is definitely too much and they should have toned it down a bit, but the rest of the game is pretty great and I really like the new additions they put in like the fear takedowns. The boss fights are kinda ruined by the tank stuff though.

If you mainline City it only takes like 6 hours to complete. Honestly I think Knight had the best side activities and story, especially if you have the season of infamy DLC.

Arkham Knight is the best one, most fluid freeflow combat and you get the Batmobile instead of just gliding. Go back and play Asylum it plays like ass compared to Knight.

Also the fact that AC had so many goddamn Riddler trophies. I'd have probably enjoyed it much more if I hadn't bothered with them.

The only issue with knight are three sections with the car. All the rimmed you get out, push a switch then get back in. Completely pointless

I played Knight when it came out

I remember it being monumnetally uninteresting and retreading the same stuff but only less interesting .

I mean comparing Scarecrow in Knight to Scarecrow in Asylum is like comparing The Fiji Rugby Team to the All Blacks.

Also Joker got so fucking old. What was the pointing in killing him off only to bore us to death with him as the main villains of the next 2 games anyway?

And the Batmobile sucked.

But as I replay Origins I can't imagine Knight being much worse

Oh yeah, Knight has even more Riddler trophies and they are way worse. Another negative for that game IMO, it's just too damn much.

And some of the ones in Knight were races in the Batmobile, those were like hair pulling bad.

City is usually regarded as the best, followed by Asylum. Knight and Origins are hit or miss, but Origins had the best boss battles.

See, I didn't mind the Riddler trophies in AK because they were actually interesting. There was often a puzzle or a race or a little combat challenge to collect them. The vaaaaast majority of them in AC are just collectibles that are shoved behind a wall or something.

I think you also got a main quest update more often.

City's approached to "improved combat" was "Just add about 3 times as many enemies and give them all gimmicks with 1 specific thing you have to do to take them out." which was padding more than an improvement.

And didn't even make sense from a story perspective...

Why are groups of snipers walking in circles atop buildings? Why the gun cases alarmed? That makes sense in an Asylum where the guns are for guards in emergencies. But why is Strange giving the Joker alarmed gun cases?

Why are thugs walking around with car doors and cattle prods? And why is it fun to handle mobs exactly the same was you always would only now you have to jump on one or jump over one first?

Asylum vs City is one of the best examples of the entire "Quality vs Quantity" stance. Asylum goes "Here's a short but great experience." and City goes "Here's loads of shit, stuffed until it's pouring out of every creek, more more more more! More villains! More mobs! more Riddler trophies! More Commutes! That means its better right? Having more of it!?"

Not really?

Why are TYGER cases alarmed? And why why would Strange give mobile alarmed TYGER cases to the criminals?

It's there for gameplay purposes and nothing else, but it made sense in Asylum from a story perspective

I think even Penguin's goons who grabbed Penguin's weapons from Penguin's stashes still were alarmed for no reason

It doesn't make sense in City or Origins.

It just demonstrates the lack of focus that went into City vs Asylum. In Asylum there was rhyme and reason to everything except Croc and the croc part sucked

I know that the common consensus is that City is the best, and Origins is the worst but has the best bosses.

I personally like a Knight a lot. Yeah the story isnt as good as the others with the military focus, but its got plenty of fun twists and turns. The tank segments are actually a pretty fun recurring minigame, they just dont belong in a Batman game. For a series that does such an excellent job of being true to the Batman character and making you feel like youre playing as the dark knight, the tank battles are a huge misstep.

Combat was better and outside the ending, I liked the story and in-game stuff better.

Just cause theres a bunch of Riddlers trophies, doesnt mean you have to do everything. I had more fun with City than Asylum, but that doesnt mean that Asylum is bad. My buddy had so much fun one night when he was over, he stayed up basically all night to beat it.

Will probably replay them again if theyre still on GamePass next summer.

You didnt respond to my questions pointing out the obvious holes in your story.

Its ok everyone knows you dont live in the UK. We just play along. You dont want to prove you live in the UK because you cant.

Wish every game after Asylumn didnt shoehorn the joker in until he became the main focus of the story the entire second half. The original plots we were presented for all three sequels sounded better than what we actually got if you ask this big daddy.
