Which Pokemon game was it that made it so your Pokemon don't gain experience if you're playing a pirated copy? Black/White, I think? That one was hilarious. I remember so many people on the game board asking "why are my Pokemon not leveling up?" and outing themselves as pirates.

The funny thing is, the pirates typically had a patch for the ROMs upon release that circumvented the anti-piracy measures in DS games. Often, even the software used for flash carts had built in measures to circumvent basic anti-piracy measures.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks had a measure that removed the train controls if it detected the game was pirated. It was fun watching people over on the game's board get modded for asking why it wasn't working.

Some games actually did have anti-piracy messages. Tetris attack is one of the ones that does, because I somehow activated it once on a legitimate copy of the game

He called it a "tutorial" phase before he realized what was actually going on. It along with him revealing all of the new Pokemon days before the Japanese release got him in some major hot water with Nintendo and TPC. --- I often wonder if we are growing as a people... or in fact, regressing. ...
