Does Georgia law control? Where was Trump when he made the call? I would think it would matter what that state's law says as well, or maybe federal law.

My googling seems to indicate that there isn't good precedent across state lines, but I believe Trump is in DC right now (which is also one party consent) so it doesn't matter (though Florida is two if I'm wrong about where he was).

One of the lawsuits is in Georgia, so that one's absolutely going to fail. The federal one will also fail if Trump was in DC. If he was in Florida, it gets dicey. Technically the Georgia law would weigh more than Florida law since the recording physically happened in Georgia, though it's not as clear cut.

EDIT: Precedent seems to suggest Georgia law may prevail since Georgia had the larger stake in the content and interest of the call. California had a case of a call between California and Georgia, and their Supreme Court ended up ruling in California law's favor since their interest would be more impaired than the other way around, based on the content.

Actually, looking into it more, federal law is one party, which is what a federal case would fall under. A lawsuit in Georgia would also fall under one party. So, if Trump was in Florida, he'd have to bring the lawsuit in Florida.

Listening to more of the tape, Trump has this long list of categories of fraudulent votes with specific "minimum numbers" (e.g. his claimed 5000 dead people). Obviously these are all bullshit, but the thing that's annoying me the most is that he keeps saying it's already more than Biden's margin of victory, and then concludes that he, therefore, must have won. Except even that carries the absurd assumption that every single one of these "fraudulent" votes were for Biden!

I no longer have an interest in polls after 2016 and 2020 were both off significantly. One of the more accurate pollsters of the last cycle was basically someone who went "yeah I just add Trump votes to the samples because I feel like he should be doing better".

I know 2018 was very close and I still follow Nate Silver for analysis and an in depth look into the state of polling. But I see no reason to be excited about polls when polls also showed Susan Collins was going to lose and she crushed her opponent. I'm extremely interested in Tuesday's results, and that's about it!

I don't know I guess at this point I feel as if I am fighting for my son's future more than my life. I've probably got somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-45 years left depending on how things go if nothing very bad happens, and I think nothing I am worried about will come to pass in my actual lifetime. But I for sure worry as I get up in years and my kid isn't a kid anymore. It seems to me though that we can't do better because of many, many reasons in this country. It really sucks that every part of me is kind of just wanting to go "got mine" and remove myself, but I don't know if I can shield my son from this enough to take that attitude.

Collins was the only polling that was drastically off in senate races, the rest were within polling error.

Also, I believe Biden was up 8 points heading into the election and won by 4.5, which would likely still fall within a standard polling error.

The reality is that Trump does funny things to the numbers when he's on the ballot, but when off the ballot things are more normal. And that's what the runoffs look like. Nothing is comfortably ahead like Biden was, but you still like to see that polling heading into the election. Especially with so much early voting, the fact that it was tighter during time when Dems would be voting more and now it's moving in favor of the Dems heading onto actual election day (which usually favors the GOP) is a pretty good sign.

As someone with personal investment in that defense bill, I am going to guess you don't actually know the kind of stuff that goes into a defense bill.

I mentioned on discord, but this one had funding for repairs of a local dam deemed unsafe years ago that we finally got the funding to repair. I'd much rather my house not be at risk of being destroyed than carry on political theatre that also wouldn't result in $2000 checks.

Theres a lot of infrastructure spending tied to defense bills and things like that. Its not all bombs.

Its actually got a reason though, these are kept up by the army corp of engineers. They are the ones doing the repairs. The alternative option is the republican "Send this shit out to the free market and gouge people for dam repair that the government should be covering but wont".

Yes I know, I've seen enough West Wing to understand that it is a back and forth and all that. You got your repairs and someone somewhere got a military base, it's how it works. It's how the game is played. It's just that in exchange for giving up on "political theatre" which I honestly think is the only thing Bernie sucks at - he's not really good at grandstanding uselessly, this has gotten him his way in the past - now hundreds of thousands of people are facing an eviction crisis.

But I am glad the dam won't break, that's nice. Now please explain it to the starving and the homeless that the people who signed your dam being built are neglecting.

In fairness I rage at the bombs every day so I feel it is ok if I rage again. I am certainly always talking defense spending.

But also if we're going to give up hope like this then let's just murder all of congress and start over. it'd be a lot less deaths than what has happened without the mass murder of elected officials who have failed us collectively.
