Was this a nomination just to see how Id handle a character who doesnt have a human body and is just a robot? Because if so, I dont really know what to think of that.

I was very uncertain of how to handle Brays attractiveness score. Apparently, she used to be human, and judging by her sister, looked fairly normal. But then she turned into a robot that still looks humanoid except for having a face that I cant really describe. Ill be honest: its not a bad face. She also has excellent fashion sense for a mysterious traveler wardrobe. If I need to travel through the Sahara Desert or something and look like Im on an adventure, shell know exactly how to help me out.

Personality, I was torn with again. Shes brave and noble, which is good, but from what I could find, answers every other question with a vague statement, or is otherwise super evasive when talking about anything important. You just know thats going to get annoying really fast.

Girlfriendness is what really tanks her. Shes not just an adventurer, shes also a time-traveling alternate dimension adventurer who never has time (har har) to do anything except save the universe. There is just no way a relationship with this woman is going to work.

Sorry, Elizabeth Bray. Good person, but clearly a subpar waifu.

When I think of Yuffie in the context of waifus, I mostly think of people who bring her up in Tifa vs Aeris debates. Yuffie is in stone annoying friend or maybe annoying little sister territory rather than in waifu territory.

Yuffie is a waifu whose attractiveness varies wildly depending on the rendition, but her worst is in FF7 itself. Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children both make her look better, but I used the FF7 version anyway, because its the one people are most familiar with. FF7s artwork is kind of wonky like that; Tifa (whos also on this list) has the advantage of already appearing in FF7R, so she gets an updated version while Yuffie does not.

Personality, well, shes a really obnoxious thief. And she is a thief. Like everyone else, I like her insults if you recruit her with Tifa or Cid as the player character instead of Cloud (Im impressed someone even thought to add unique dialogue for that), but she just constantly gets into trouble, gets you into trouble, and complains a lot. Theres even a brief moment when she gets a job while youre at a beach town, then if you go back, the guy she was working for mentions his stuff got stolen. Can you imagine trying to deal with that? Yuffie only simmers down after you save her life from a scummy fat pimp who hangs her upside-down on a Buddha statue, which, Id like to believe most waifus will reach the wont steal from you point before things reach that point.

Girlfriendness is a mixed bag. Yuffie is the first member of royalty on the list (Im counting her as a princess, even if she technically isnt, because her father rules the country), but shes also an adventurer, and even more specifically a thief. We know she spends much of her time hiding in forests waiting to ambush travelers, which is a major detriment.

Look, Yuffie has some significant strengths as a waifu, but her mischievous personality and choice of profession sabotage them. Aside from Jenova, shes easily the weakest waifu in her game.

When I made the nomination topic, Para mentioned how he was going to furry up my nominations. When I asked him why he wasnt using Sonic characters, he said it was because they were too common a choice.

Saying that Im familiar with Rouge the Bat is sort of cheating, because the last Sonic game I played was Sonic and Knuckles in like 1994, but we all basically know Rouge. Ill be honest, here: Im not a fan of the femme fatale archetype. Theres basically only one I like, and Rouge isnt in Resident Evil. Like Yuffie, Rouge is both an extremely untrustworthy thief and an adventurer-type, so she loses just a ton of points right off the bat (hurr durr).

As far as sexy girls go, Rouge is okay. Aside from obviously being a bat, theres nothing really special about her design. Shes sort of just too archetypal for her own good. I wonder what the breakdown is of sexy waifus vs cute waifus? I suspect most of B8 would lean toward cute waifus, of which Rouge is not one. I wonder what the decision was to make the sexy girl a bat of all things. A bat? A cat I would understand. Whats the most significant cat character in Sonic? Is it Biggs?

Regardless, Rouge not a quality waifu, Im sorry. Shes going to break off the relationship without a word and go on a Chaos Emerald-stealing adventure as soon as the mood strikes her, and theres nothing youll be able to do to persuade her otherwise.

Im not sure if Im supposed to refer to Fate characters by their titles or names? Because her name is Medea, but the Wikis usually call her Caster, but sometimes they dont? She was nominated as Caster, though, so thats what Im calling her.

Okay, heres the thing about the Girlfriendness ranking. In theory, being super dedicated and loving is a good thing, but when you take it will do anything to be with your boyfriend, including screwing over everyone else in the world levels, it becomes a liability. Theres an anime term for that, but I dont remember what it is and Im too lazy to look it up. The point is, I dont want to have constantly worry that my waifu is going to come up with an insane plan to kill people and steal their magical artifacts so she can stay materialized in the real world longer. I mean, yes, okay, freeing children from being sacrificed is good, but Im going to call that as being below minimum morality.

Then you have the issue of her getting aroused by torturing another girl into obedience and groping her? This TVTropes article about her is all over the map about how sympathetic shes supposed to be, because part of it is like shes totally a sympathetic villain bro and then the other part is like sex torture lol.

As far as looks go, shes a fairly standard attractive anime girl. She does have a cool villain cloak that covers her face, but Im assuming that as a waifu, shell lower the hood, so Im judging her based on that. The Wiki describes her as incredibly beautiful, but lets be real: by cute anime girl standards, shes okay.

Overall, yes, I can see some of the appeal here, but this girls got some serious emotional issues that I am just unprepared to handle.

Lets get this out of the way: when I re-researched Shion, I realized that Id ranked her too highly in every regard. But Id already started the topic, so whatever. Im going to give her the appropriate rankings, and now shes below people who already showed up. Now shes in the bottom 5, just assume everyone above her gets kicked up one rank each. This will probably happen again in the future.

So, Shions another victim of a series with an ugly art style. There are some other art styles of her on Google, I assume Higurashi is a big enough series that its been adapted multiple times and there are several versions of it around, so I sort of just averaged it out. Likewise, her age is either 14 or 17, but it seems to be 14 most of the time. Point is, I can imagine Shion looking good, but no one looks good in what seems to be the primary art style of this series.

More importantly, Shion appears to be an insane person who manipulates people all the time? I appreciate how shes intelligent enough to outsmart a schools worth of guards and faculty, and she does get some points to Girlfriendness for getting a job as a waitress, but everything I can find about her emphasizes either her manipulating people, her being super jealous, or her being violently insane. I dont think anyone wants to deal with any of that, right?

Sorry, Shion. Shion from Xenosaga would have done better, and I only played one-and-a-half of those games.

I guess this is where Im going to have to reveal one of my personal waifu tastes, and if you disagree, thats fine: Im not super into the super graceful perfect feminine trope? That shows up a lot in anime stuff, and while Nobume isnt a pure example of that, she definitely gives off those vibes, right up to doing that anime thing where you constantly sheathe and unsheathe a sword during a fight. Personality is a mixed bag. I like the sense of loyalty and justice, I dislike the fake emotionlessness. Theres exactly one emotionless girl on this list whos going to get positive points for it, and its not this one. I also appreciate how shell avoid fulfilling some orders she disagrees with, thats always good. But her default solution to most problems appears to involve swords? Im just gonna say it: very few problems can be solved with swords, unless youre willing to go all-in, in which case the solution might be worse than the original problem itself.

Girlfriendness is again a super mixed bag. Ex-assassin is bad, but then she becomesthe police chief at age 18? Okay, anime. But either way, shes violently insane around donuts. Thats gonna be an issue. I mean, yes, its easy to get donuts to mollify her, but random people often just run around with donuts, and no one wants to deal with her going nuts as she sees them.

So, this is the first two Rins, and five waifus with Rin in their name, to drop. Ive never played Katawa Shoujo (though, just to be clear, I fall into the pure VNs arent really video games elitism crowd, sorry), but Im obviously aware of it. Is it the most bizarre thing ever that some guys from 4chan got together and actually designed and finished a VN? Like, it was so unlikely and weird that I made sure to look up for this writeup that they were indeed from 4chan, and it wasnt just a coincidence that the name of the studio is Four Leaf.

I hate to say this, because I know its awful, but this character just made me feel like Kramer in that one episode of Seinfeld, where hes like my girlfriend has everything I ever wanted in a woman except the ability to walk, except that Rin is also lacking other non-disability things youd find in an ideal waifu.

So, Rins disability is obviously that she doesnt have arms, and I feel like this is going to be a hard topic to attack, so Ill just say it right off: thats got to be like the biggest and most difficult disability ever. Like, no driving, no moving furniture, and no cooking, which are three things Id expect to find in most ideal waifus. And dont tell me she can use her feet as hands. Im happy to do some of the cooking myself, but theres no way Im eating foot-cooked food.

As far as personality goes, shes pleasant, but she speaks in a really I dont know what word to use. Buffy-ish manner? Where she doesnt use many complicated words and relies on weird ways to describe things (There are some not-things. Unthings. I dont think thats a word), and where she has difficulty describing her thoughts. I mean, shes pleasant and everything, but trying to communicate with and understand her is definitely going to be as much of a problem as her actual disability.

And to add to all of this, Rins goal is to be an artist, which is maybe the most unreliable job in the world. Its made even worse by the fact that she gets so into it that she can forget to eat or sleep, and that she has to do a lot of things with her mouth? Which, I have to believe thats going to mean everything needs to be cleaned all the time.

Sorry, Rin. Its not fair for your waifu ranking to be almost entirely determined by the whole arm thing, but thats the way it goes.

So, NGE is one of the few anime I have actually watched to completion. Ill just say it: pretty much every character in it is a horribly broken mess of a person, so much so that any relationship with one is doomed from the start. But Misato in particular is probably the most broken and the most doomed.

Like, shes got an important military job, and shes good at it, which is all fine, but shes an alcoholic, insanely jealous when the boy she likes looks at another girl, and when she fails to take care of a teenage boy, tries to start a relationship with him. So, basically her one skill is military stuff, and shes just a complete disaster zone outside of that.

Im sorry, but theres zero chance any kind of relationship with Misato is ever going to work. The show wanted to create a cast of people with severe psychological problems, and it succeeded.

By the way, yes, I am aware that her canon hair color is black, and it just appears purple for visual purposes, but I didnt accept that with Terra and I dont accept it here.

And the winner of most obscure waifu goes to Tammy! I was shocked that I was still able to find two pieces of fan art for her, even if theyre horrible.

As far as sapient tomatoes go pretty sexy! Hair, eyelashes, all of the things you think of when you need to establish that an object or animal is a girl. If only she had a bow. By the way, heres my only story that involves tomatoes. Years ago, I was going to Subway, and asked my sister if she wanted anything. She insisted on writing down her order, telling me that it was too complicated to remember, and spent like five minutes tracking down a piece of paper and pen while I complained that I could remember a sandwich order. Finally, she gave me a slip of paper that said wheat tuna + tomatos, with tomatoes misspelled like that.

Personality-wise, the only information Ive been able to find about Tammy is that she knows how to wave. She also knows how to smile. So far, so good!

Girlfriendness, well, her only defining personality trait is that she is a girlfriend. I would give her more points for that, but since shes a tomato, she probably wont want me eating things with ketchup. Thats not a dealbreaker, I can just avoid cheeseburgers and fries while around her, but its a minor deduction.

Overall Not the worst waifu, but far from the best.

I just want to briefly synopsize this game before moving on: its an eroge that takes place in a world where criminals are rehabilitated by being assigned a legal obligation related to their crime. In order to become a Special High Class Individual, you must return to your hometown and rehabilitate three cute girls.

Deciding how to rate Sachi was difficult, but I decided to use the in-game version rather than the presumably rehabilitated version she eventually becomes. Specifically, this is important for exactly the reason you think it would be: her obligation. So, Sachis shtick is that is that, although shes intelligent and energetic, shes also super lazy and wastes all of her free time gambling and racking up a huge debt, so her legal obligation is to take a drug that knocks her out for 12 hours every day. Look, Im obviously okay with my waifus sleeping, but not for twelve hours a day, every day, plus occasional naps.

I watched part of the game on youtube, and yes, there are major good aspects to her personality that mostly cancel out the laziness and bossy attitude. Its good to see that she can buckle down and get serious when she needs to but for her to reach that point, the government has to start threatening to take away her little sister? I feel like you should be able to get serious long before then.And it doesnt really help that part of Sachis appeal is that shes your childhood friend. I dont know if childhood friend as a concept should apply to waifu status?

And shes another painter waifu! What is with waifus and painting? This is not a reliable source of income. Lastly, her games art style doesnt do it for me. I am anti-giant anime eyes, and this game goes all-in with them.

Overall, Sachi seems like a waifu where youd have to be on her ass half the day, every day, and still be worried about her screwing things up a lot.

Our second white hair waifu to drop, and its another furry. Is there a whole world of furry media I dont know about? Like, shows that are ostensibly about one thing, but are really just a pretense for furry characters to go around being furries, not like Sonic or Star Fox where the furry fans are organic, and non-furries just dont know anything about these shows and video games. Im not judging if thats the case, Im just curious. Its just, I dont know, furry characters and wholesome characters who gain furry fans just have this subtle difference I can pick up on most of the time. You look at Undertale, and Muffet doesnt ping my furry radar, but So Sorry absolutely does. Similarly, Haru pings my radar, and I dont quite know why.

Sorry, Haru fans, but I guess I never realized before how important normal human-esque hair is to me in a waifu for attractiveness purposes. Call me crazy, but I guess thats the way it goes. It doesnt help that she has realistic black rabbit eyes, which, thats a nope from me.

Personality looks like a win. Oh, shes a bit sullen because people called her a slut? How completely reasonable. Otherwise, she comes off as pleasant and honest, which seems like a win to me? As far as main love interest waifus go (and I can tell shes the main love interest just based on her design, somehow), she seems solid.

Im sorry. Im trying to imagine how Haru would do if she was a generic human waifu, and if Im being honest, I think shed probably be doing a bit better. Not a huge amount, but theres nothing intrinsically wrong with her as a waifu, and yet my ranking system has put her here. More power to you, Haru fans.

I remember liking it at the time, but it probably hasn't held up very well. It's a point-and-click adventure like Shadowgate, but easier and more child friendly. And if you liked said point-and-clicks and only had an NES, there wasn't a lot of competition.

Thinking on it, is Lisa Simpson the most famous waifu on the nominations list? She has to be. Is there any culture unfamiliar with the Simpsons that isnt like small tribe?

Lisa is not especially attractive. Even in her adult form, shes still got that weird Simpsons lip flap. Generally, I like it when girls have bangs, but Lisas forehead connects directly into her hair spikes, which is an odd look. Shes not super ugly, but I dont foresee anyone thinking shes like breathtaking, right? She also has zero fashion sense, since her only outfit appears to be a red dress.

Lisas big problem is her personality. Shes really judgmental and annoying, basically. Theres an episode where Mr. Burns is just like Are you always on?, and Lisa has no good response. I feel like any relationship with Lisa is going to involve her never being satisfied with anything, and thats going to get annoying fast.

Girlfriendness is a mixed bag. Lisas clearly very smart and has a lot of potential, but we know from the future episodes that she doesnt always achieve it. Even if she does, youd still have to put up with Homer and Bart, who are just going to be nightmares.

Sorry, Lisa. Youre also the least funny character on your own show.

Ill ignore what I think of Blissey as a pokemon (one of the most annoying faces to see when playing) and focus just on it as a waifu. In short: it has some advantages, and many more disadvantages.

I mean, again, we went into this a little with Rin, but call me ableist, but I like my waifus able to communicate with me. A waifu who can only say her own name is definitely not going to be able to connect with me on any kind of meaningful emotional level, no matter how kind her personality may be.

Blissey is consistently portrayed as an assistant to a nurse, which is weird because I thought nurses were the assistants, but thats fine. That sounds like a solid, reliable job. And I get the feeling that Blissey is going to be really patient with my weeaboo nerd hobbies, which is another bonus. Unfortunately, Natural Cure and Serene Grace are garbage abilities for a waifu, while Healer is only slightly better. Healer is only going to come into play if I get poisoned, burned, or frozen, which, you know, there is a small chance of those not so much frozen, since I live in LA, but still. Also, the pokedex entries make it clear that Blissey is really good at cooking eggs, which, Im not a huge egg fan, but Ill give points for that, sure. Unfortunately, Blissey is also compelled to help anyone it sees sad, which is definitely going to be a problem on occasion.

Despite all of these genuine advantages, Blissey is killed in the attractiveness section. Im not even 100% sure it counts as a furry, but ignoring that element, it has no nose, which we already discussed is a major flaw for me, and it only has beady little eyes. Add to that that its always carrying around an egg that never hatches. I dont even want to guess what psychology that implies.

Overall? As far as pokewaifus go, Blissey is actually up there, to my surprise.
