After a week off, we're back with more metallic mayhem and a pair of all-star matchups headlining this week's card. Two robots who were on the wrong ends of controversial judge's decisions earlier in the season look to bounce back as last year's runner-up Witch Doctor takes on Kraken, and Hydra's powerful flipper looks to upend a HUGE and dangerous opponent. Showtime is a little over an hour away for what could be a make-or-break week for several competitors. Whose playoff hopes will be smashed to bits, and whose will live on?

Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, the first few episodes of BattleBots: Bounty Hunters (a new side series airing alongside this season) are up on the Discovery+ streaming service, along with previous episodes of the main BattleBots competition if you need to catch up.

Bounty Hunters was just okay. ICEwave's new look was pretty cool though its performance was meh.

Looking forward to watching the main tournament again.

I'm planning on waiting until all of the BH episodes are up and binging them all at once. That way I only need to pay for one month of Discovery+, or I could potentially finish them all within the free trial period if I'm determined enough.

Apparently, this fight was taped before the similarly controversial Beta vs. Rotator fight that we saw in an earlier episode. So part of the frustration we saw from teams after that fight was actually carryover from this one.

Just saw the best analogy for the Hydra/Huge fight over on Reddit and I couldn't agree more: What Hydra did was akin to someone entering a boxing ring with a riot shield instead of gloves and saying "there's nothing in the rule book that mentions riot shields."

Awesome fight to send us home happy! Kraken, who just 2-3 years ago was seen as a joke bot, just upset last year's runner-up! It's a shame to see Witch Doctor fall to 0-2 and possibly miss the tournament as a result, but they fought well.

I remember seeing a comment that alluded to something else questionable happening in the season. I guess now we know what that was. That was a spectacular fight, and should be used in highlight montages for all time.

I also guess this proves fire weapons can actually turn a fight for those that think it's purely flash.

This season just feels so damn weird, but to be fair I don't blame them due to all the limitations.

Mmm... Having watched the episode now Whyachi are definitely the villains of the league. By the rules as written Hydra did what it needed to secure a win, but I can foresee some new rules being drafted for a sixth season. Otherwise why not just encase a bot in full on crash bar cage and devote all the remaining weight to an amped up drive train.

Witch Doctor might be durable, but geez do they need to rework their weapon composition. They know it, but they're hanging by a thread right now. If they don't rip a bot in half in their next fight they might miss the tournament of 32.

Also, in a surprising twist, Subzero is a working bot now. I wonder if they can keep that up going forward.

I actually picked Ghost Raptor to win because Jackpot only one its first fight because Subzero just stopped working. And my policy on Subzero fights is to always take the other guy, so I was not feeling great about Jackpot. I'm now instituting always bet against Ghost Raptor rule.

Of course Subzero went and won last night too. It was a rough night for my picks.

Random note, I actually got two of the hexbug BattleBots toys for my wife for Christmas. Two pack set, Witch Doctor and Bronco. They actually work really well! Lot of fun to play with.
