In a lot of states the romeo and juliet laws would kick in here.

Just looked this up.

This episode is filmed in Michigan.

Age of consent in Michigan is 16 HOWEVER if someone under the age of 16 conducts sexual activity with someone 4 years older or younger, the romeo and juliet law kicks in. So in this case him being 18 and her being 15 fits into this category.

But also, Michigan defines this a "sexual contact" and doesn't protect "penetration". In other words, Michigan's laws are fucked.

This is one of those cases where this kid is a felon in one state yet if he crosses state lines he's a law abiding citizen. This one, to me, isn't fair.

I never knew Hansen from from bloomfield. Thats a nice area thats kinda surrounded by some more dumpy areas. like an oasis in the hood

Entrapment would be if the underage actor first contacts the people and lure them into committing a crime.

This show works by the underage actor being in an area where there is a high chance of them solicited.

Not sure. Soliticing? That isn't illegal. I know some of these idiots send dick pics and that busts them alone. But for ones that's all text I think it's mostly the shame and embarrassment.

It honestly amazes me that no one has shot this guy yet for doing this shit. Especially once he puts their name and face everywhere and claims they are child predators, even though he uses entrapment to get them there in the first place.

LEgally speaking, that doesn't really change the circumstances of his question. He's producing and publishing a video program featuring these people. Not even just coincidentally, but as the main attraction of the program. If he's profiting off of To Catch a PRedator, and he assuredly is because all that shit costs money, he needs to obtain consent to show their faces.

I dont know but that guy has his own show on Discovery Plus. Not by choice mind you. But they made a documentary called like The Secret Life of Onision or somethingike that for one of their Original shows when it launched

Last I heard Hansen fucked it up by tampering with evidence enough so that it can't be used in court anymore just so he could have his show rather than letting the police handle it.

There should be some sort of stipulation. Like a 3 year window.

If you're 15 you can be with 18. 16 can be with 19. 17 with 20. Idk feels wrong to me to come at an 18 year old kid because they're "an adult".

Yep... Chris Hansen is sadly a shadow of his former self. He no longer has a competent legal team behind him nor really the police or the FBI behind him, and right now he's on a very desperate push to become relevant again, mostly because he has a ton of debt and almost nothing left to his name after his divorce. He did a fundraiser for his show and then basically didn't pay the people creating the merch.

His Onision shit was so dragged on and basically didn't accomplish anything other than essentially destroy a few key evidences by handing it over to some shady guy who had a history of doctoring evidence.

The best thing to do is to never speak of Chris Hansen again. As far as we know, that man doesn't really exist anymore. Right now he's just a glorified tabloid-esque blogger

So when NBC fired him for cheating on his wife, he became desperate for money and does anything, no matter how mediocre, to get by. I did hear he is going to be releasing a show on investigation discovery though, that might be cool.

He appears on the Onision doc on Discovery Plus but I have a feeling thats not what you meant. He isn't the main host of the Onision show. Just a person interviewed

murphy tx. the cops mishandled a lot of aspects of the sting, and all of the predators in that sting got off because of it. it was bullshit that they got off, as there was definitely evidence of intent in most, if not all, of the cases. this happens to be the same sting where the assistant DA killed himself. im sure this had a lot of merit on why the decision was made to let the predators go.

yeah him. if you look at his chatlog it was not sexual. but he was still charged (although not nearly as bad as most of the predators). its not appropriate for a 32 year old to meetup with a 13 year old even for just talk. someone in middle school talking to a college graduate. what is there to even talk about?

i meant to comment on this. i can see where you're coming from, and i agree that 13 vs 18 is a bit harsh in hansen's standards. To Catch a Predator never featured an 18 year old male meeting someone younger. there were some 19 year olds however.
