I checked this out because I read some stellar reviews and I thought it would be a good model for finding/labeling disinformation[in video games]. But I'm not connecting to the joy of the game. What am I missing? My answer: That's a good question! And the answer is: it's not fun. It's not meant to be fun. There are a few things going for it that makes it an enjoyable experience though. 1. It's gratifying. Being able to go through a work week in an hour and know you did a great job and having instant feedback is great. It's the same reason many simulator games are enjoyable. 2. The story is great, and you have to piece it together. By getting good at the game you're trained to look out for tiny details, so you will notice when the newspaper talks about an envoy of diplomats coming to your country, but that same day you could find that diplomat is actually a suicide bomber. But you'll only notice it's the same person if you paid attention to his papers. 3. Tough choices. Do you pay for heating or food for your family for the day? Do you upgrade your gear to make it so you possibly earn more money later or save in case your child gets sick? Do you accept the bribe and risk getting caught? People love these choice driven games because they allow for reliability. And the core mechanic allows for mastery as well, and that's a winning combination.
