When Brittney Gosney reported her 6-year-old son missing to Ohio police on Sunday, officers had no idea how the story would change later that day.

In a matter of hours, the case of a missing child became a homicide investigation. Authorities were sent to the Ohio River, where James Robert Hutchinson's body was dumped. And his mother was charged with murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

According to court records, Gosney told investigators with the Middletown Division of Police that she tried to abandon Hutchinson at Rush Run Park in Preble County on Friday. When he tried to get back in the car, she sped off, ran over him and dragged him "for a distance," officials said.

Gosney returned to the scene about 30 minutes later, found him dead in a parking lot with a head injury, brought him to her home in Middletown and placed the body in an upstairs bedroom, according to the criminal complaint.

The next day, she and her boyfriend, 42-year-old James Hamilton, drove to an undisclosed location along the Ohio River and dumped the body in the water, the document said. Authorities still haven't found it.

Like Gosney, Hamilton was charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, police said. He does not face a murder charge.

A judge set Gosneys bond at $1 million on Monday and Hamiltons bond at $100,000, NBC affiliate WWBT reported. It was unclear Tuesday if they had attorneys.

Absolutely. I just looked up the cost out curiosity. One site listed their average cost as $20,000-$30,000, while another listed $30,000-$50,000... What in the actual fuck? Why does it cost so much? No wonder there are so many kids that never get adopted.

Yeah we initially looked into adoption, and while invitrofertilization is definitely not cheap, it was actually a lot more affordable than adoption.

and its not just the money either. i've heard horror stories from families looking to adopt where they wait for years. and its not for lack of kids, its that the process is just glacially slow.

Yeah we initially looked into adoption, and while invitrofertilization is definitely not cheap, it was actually a lot more affordable than adoption.

You can also become foster parents which I think is even cheaper. The problem is your kids can be taken from you at any time. If you're lucky enough to get a kid that can be adopted, however, the process from going from foster parent to legal Guardian is a lot smoother than adopting outright.

Fair warnings though, most of the kids in the foster care system are going to have behavioral issues because you don't end up in foster care unless pretty much every adult in your life is a complete fuck up.

and taking care of a child isnt a monkey brain instinctual thing too?

animals in general (at least mammals) are hardwired instinctually to take care of infants, this is why we see stories of female dogs taking orphaned kitties and treating them as puppies (even feeding them if she happens to be lactating for another reason) and things like that.

there was even a story in Nat Geo about a leopard that killed a monkey but then adopted the monkeys baby and tried to mother it.

harambe himself was being fatherly to the kid that fell in the cage in his own way before he got shot.

adoption is as much an instinct as reproduction is

Ehh this is an extremely overly simplistic view. Male Lions are known to slaughter the cubs of another Male Lion (usually one who has been killed) to make the mothers go back into heat and produce more of their own offspring.

There's definitely a "my dna" component to it.
