I strongly believe the Beatles were just lucky to be at the right place and right time. Their talent is unremarkable and most songs are meh

I don't think the second season of True Detective was that bad. People wanted more of what they saw in the first season, but the second takes inspiration from completely different sources, and that clash between desired expectations and reality created a lot of backlash. It probably didn't help that the story was intentionally convoluted (an homage to James Ellroy, whose writing was an obvious inspiration for the season) which made it harder for a lot of people to follow. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's the weakest of the three season, but I still think it's actually good.

alien 3 was definitely the weakest of the original 4 movies. resurrection got a lot of shit, but for what it is its an entertaining movie. alien 1 and 2 are just so good that its hard to live up to those expectations

Either that or they're intentionally doing it to get a rise from people. It depends on if you mean bad opinions in the political/social/etc sense or bad opinions in the 'babies should pay taxes and Space Jam is the best movie ever' sense.

Well, anti-vaxxers and flat-earthers, from my thankfully limited experience, hold a massive distrust of 'the establishment' be it government or private corporations. That by doing so they shell out tons of money for their essential oils or have to defy all science dating back to Biblical eras because one guy did one experiment (as well as ignore all logic to do so) to arrive at the logical conclusion is irrelevant. It's about the self and being right while the rest of society is dumb and has the wool pulled over their eyes that matters.

In the director's cut the Xenomorph was born from a cow instead of a dog because the original intention was to have a slightly larger Xenomorph in this movie.

i like alien 3 but the pacing and story was the weakest of the four. 3 was trying to have some of the same suspense and build up as the first but the story/setting wasnt as great and never recaptured that original magic. never seen the directors cut though

Nah, I can only remember, like, 2 characters in the entire movie. None of which were particularly interesting.
Plus the final, like, hour just looked boring and yellow. There wasn't anything going on.

I don't get the hate for Alien 3. It was very much in the same vein as Alien, even the pacing was a lot closer to Alien than Aliens. The ending was a bit hokey and I can understand why people would be mad about the shit that happened off-screen at the beginning, but it was decent.

A lot of effects look worse when you look at the individual frames. I loved the effects in Dog Soldiers, but a few months ago when I wanted to post an image from the film somewhere like every still I saw just looked like crap. I finally tried another werewolf movie... and immediately ran into that same problem. Can't remember what I finally did.

You can't get the same performance out of an actor talking to a tennis ball on a stick in front of a green screen.

The same with a lot of Preacher.

Compare that to something like Legion or Lucifer or American Gods.

All decent stories, but the actual acting is very different when you're looking at CG when compared to practical effects.

Sam Raimi is definitely a weirdo, but he's an authentic weirdo.

Look at the dream sequences in something like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, knowing the takes were done with practicals and it makes the scene that much more...baffling.

There's a certain visceral reaction in the actors in real time with practical effects that you just can't get with CG in post.

But that's kind of my point. GC effects have an uncanny valley going on in motion because they're frame perfect on pause because each frame has been crafted. You're not going to get the same performance out of someone talking to a tennis ball on a stick in front of a green screen that you're going to get from someone talking to a person on a real set with an exploding blood bag.
