I have to talk to a lot of people on the phone delivering health information for one of my jobs. The biggest behavioral attitude difference between people of the same age cohort is in the 55 to 65 range. There are so many people who I wouldn't figure for any different someone in their 30s or 40s, but so many others who act like they're 90 or older.

It's weird how many people just seem to give up on life after 50. Even if you're not hot anymore, there's still plenty of being alive to do.

Both of these are fine. I like those oldsters with character and heart.

It's the people who I can hear watching Matlock in the background even though they're only 58. Breathing heavily and shrugging off my advice with "Well, I'm old, not like I have much else going on 'til I die." Like, bruh, why are you resigning yourself to old age? Matlock's original run was when you were in your twenties! It barely counts as nostalgia.

Yeah I used to work admissions at the hospital and there are people out there who look like theyre 40 with a six pack and they're 60. I don't think most people even know that's possible

And it's not good genes. It's exercise and diet

A lot of people are incredibly disinterested in improving their health and make up nonsensical excuses for it

This. Genes can be a part of it but its about staying active. My dads 65 and strong as shit and he can hike 12 hours non stop over pretty gnarly terrain. And its because he's always been doing shit like that.

My grandmas were a perfect example. One just wanted to sit and read and eventually became so weak she needed a wheel chair and the other did her own grocery shopping and lived independently into her 90s because she was always out walking and doing stuff.

Absolutely. I need to keep up with all my stuff and be upright. My parents are total opposites with this. My dad is lean and works all day on physical projects. He's 74, smoked for over fifty years, has arthritis in his spine that he didn't even know about until it got so bad it crushed a nerve.

My mom is 72, obese, using diabetes and arthritis as an excuse since before I was born. At this point, she's practically bedbound. She just refuses to walk more than a couple hundred steps a day and wants everything done for her. I've seen pictures from the past when she was about average. This is entirely self-inflicted.

When I'm in my 50s, I will exercise regularly, engage in rec sports with 30-somethings and make them look bad while still being hot.

oh wait...
