Then your son is dumb. It has the least action of the three new movies.

Didn't we already have this thread? Oh well. Clearly you've failed him as a father. There's nothing to do but cut your losses, have another one and correct your mistakes. Good luck.

As long as he doesn't say that Star Trek: Discovery is the best Star Trek. If that happens I think you're pretty much morally obligated to drown him in the tub.

It's the best of the Kelvin films.
Although the best film is The Undiscovered Country.

Picard is the worst Star Trek series.

This is not a hypothesis I'm prepared to dispute. But I think there's room enough at the bottom for both shows.

Discovery has at least one likable character (The season 3 Admiral). I can't say that for Picard.

All I know is that the trailer for Picard made it look like a freaking action series and had him running away from huge explosions and shit, and that just killed any interest I had in giving the show a shot.

I wish they would just ease up on the gas and make some slower, more cerebral and dialogue driven Star Trek like the old stuff. I guess that isnt what people want anymore though.

I really just hated so much that they built up the villain as this super intelligent genetically ideal human or whatever, only for him to turn to to an angry smash the computers with his fists and yell two-dimensional cartoon villain the moment his plan wasnt going perfectly.

I didnt even care about them shoehorning on the fact that he was Khan.

Couldn't get past the first few episodes of Season 3 of Discovery.

Couldn't get even halfway through Picards craptastic whatever that is (not Star Trek).

Next Gen + DS9 was the best. Didn't ever really like Janeway as captain. Original Star Trek was great back in the day as well.

I kinda liked season 1 of Discovery, 2 was meh and 3 just lost me.

I'd rate Discovery WAY over Picard tho.

Like Picard is 1, Discovery 4, Original Star Trek like 6, Next Gen/Ds9 10 on a scale of 1-10. Didn't see the one with Quantam leap dude as captain (star trek enterprise?), and I'd rate Voyager at like a 5 I guess.

But that is just me.

Also I really liked Warf (and a few other characters from next gen/Ds9) so that does cause me to be a bit impartial.

I'd argue that there are people who want that. They're called "Star Trek fans".

But that's not mainstream enough for the studio, so they're far more willing to chase trends and try to appeal to casual interest in the hopes of churning out blockbusters. But it's not really a franchise that fits that mentality well, and in trying to turn Star Trek into Star Wars or Guardians of the Galaxy, they're essentially alienating their existing fanbase while failing to really appeal to any new "mainstream" fans.

Star Trek kind of works best as a TV show that leans into its nerd roots. Trying to be action jocks in space sort of misses the entire point of why people liked the franchise in the first place.

Which is funny, because deep episodic sci-fi seems to do really, really well on streaming services, so you'd think CBS would want to do something more like TNG or DS9 on CBS All Access/Paramount+. Instead, we get stuff like Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks - and I can't imagine any of those shows significantly driving subscriptions (especially considering how negative opinion has been toward them online from older Star Trek fans and nerds in general).

Lower decks was fine for what was. From my observation the fanbase seems to be split, with even traditional fans liking it. It's not trying to be TNG, and feels like the kind of parody cartoons you would've found on youtube back in the day.
