Argh, I've used them for along time, but there are new people working there now, old dude was cool. Some girl is working there though and they seriously ripped me off.

So, went to go have my AC topped off there, got a quote initially of up to 99$ based on how much AC fluid was needed. Was like ok cool, I'll bring it in.

I bring it in and mention there has been a bad smell when the fan is on, could they check the filter while they are at it.

They call me back and say there is a rats nest there and it'll be $150 to clean it out. I'm like Ewwww, ok do that and don't do the AC then for now.

An hour later they call me back and say it's done, I come back but they charge me (after taxes/fees etc) $282.77. She had some explination for it, but I was a bit iffy about it but shrugged and paid it.

So the other day I go shopping while it's raining and turn on the fan/heater to keep the windows from fogging, but bam the smell is still there (it wasn't at first mind you because they had sprayed something to mask it).

I call them this morning and the girl is like, "oh if we had taken it all out and washed it the labor would have been much more!!, but you can bring it in and we'll look at it".

Now I'm 50, havn't worked on cars for a few decades, but I used to regularly when younger. I don't remember much, but I vaguely remember it being pretty freaking easy to replace the AC filter (which is where the rats nest was).

I go out to my car and sure enough, I can get to the filter and take it out in like 2 minutes (max). I then took some bleach/cleaning solution and wiped everything down. I am going to do a more thorough job later on the whole engine, but for now, 5 minutes total was all it took.

So they charged me for 2 hours of labor and a $20 fee for service, along with $22 for the replacement filter, for something that took less than 5 minutes to do (and they didn't even do it properly since they didn't wash it out/use bleach etc).

I called just now and complained and the dude I talked to said he would look into it. The receipt I show says 24$ for the filter, 24$ for the service fee (called shop supply) and 210$ for labor.

Not sure how much their labor is, but I can understand some places charge 1 hour no matter what. There is no way it took 2 hours though and also no way they charge $210 an hour. The total time was probably under 15 minutes (if they looked around and inspected other stuff).

Very dissapointed sigh. Least I still remember enough to have checked it myself, but they are probably taking advantage of tons of people who don't know anything about cars (or like me havn't worked on them in decades).

its crazy how corrupt and predatory a lot of mechanics and dealerships are considering they have had the reputation for being that way for decades

people need to drive though so they can earn money and take care of family usually so they usually arent in a position to argue or question things if they arent knowledgeable about cars

Yeah, I mean I know they over charge etc, but I thought this shop was not like that (it wasn't in the past), but this is just rediculous.

Yeah, you need a car, and you don't have time to play around with yourself, have a bad back etc, so you have to trust the mechanics, but yeah, it looks like they REALLY shouldn't be trusted.

Seriously dissapointed in them.

Same thing happened to me at a toyota dealer once. I even had my fucking receipts from the last time I went there less than a month ago to show them the bullshit they were pulling and thinking they were getting away with. Basically they charge whatever labor cost they want. It more than doubled from the last visit when they ripped me off. Fucking bullshit
