Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

As someone who had mainly only been into Hip-Hop and Metal up until that point, the Boss took me on a goddamn musical and spiritual journey that day.

Probably the David Bowie greatest hits when I was really young. It was the first musical thing I really liked and it got me totally absorbed in music.

More recently, maybe like 7 years ago, I listened to Call of the West by Wall of Voodoo and it got me into more crazy and fun creative new wave music. I imagine that bled into my personality a bunch too. They remain my favorite band

That album and Dream Theater as a whole basically put an end to a teenage fueled J-Pop phase that I went through in high school.

Rammstein - Mutter
First album I've heard by my favorite band.

Mastodon - Crack The Skye
First time hearing an absolute 10/10 album, still my favorite album.

Anaal Nathrakh - Hell Is Empty And All The Devils Are Here
This one showed me black/death metal wasn't all noise, and surely opened that door for me.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits, or it might have been Mule Variations

I would typically listen only to singles, and hearing some of his songs made me think "what in god's name am I listening to? I need to hear more of this", and what first made me actually listen to albums.

Great album.

For me, it's probably Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate. Or OK Computer by Radiohead.

All three of these Decemberists albums changed my life:
Picaresque
The Crane Wife
The King is Dead

The songs are so good and its not remotely introspective, so its interesting.

The Wall - Pink Floyd

Until then I'd never really known an album to span an entire story of a life. The way it weaves the biography of Pink with the isolation and solitude of his lifestyle was pretty amazing. Really see how The Wall was built, as some one with metaphorical walls of his own, it speaks to me.

I've never listened to too much Springsteen, but the main character in Battle Royale (the book) is a huge fan, which helped influence his rebellious nature.

Im listening to it now.

I used to just lay there in the darkness, trying to recapture whatever was going through my little head when I first heard it. Its like the perfect song exists somewhere there in theory, splintered amongst the various tracks. In that music, I would see visions of horizons & all sorts of things.

Yeah, it's really great. Serj Tankian really is such an amazing dude, and the message of their music only makes more sense as I get older.

Hell, they're the only reason I even knew that the Armenian Genocide happened.

I first heard this back in 2002 or 2003 and it was my introduction to crust punk. I instantly loved it and to this day it's still my favourite genre of music.
