We got our vaccines around December and January and Im reading articles that are saying the vaccine is only effective for 6-8 months. Im coming up on my 6 months since the 2nd shot and am now wondering if Im supposed to get another vaccine put in me to avoid the new delta variant? I cant find any details on people who got it more than the first time.

It's not that the vaccine is only good for 6-8 months,it's that we're only certain that it offers protection for that length because that is how long the earliest doses have been active. The current vaccines are highly effective against the delta variant (and other currently known variants) and it's believed the protection from the vaccine is long lasting

It's confirmed for 6 months, current testing is underway on longer periods. It probably lasts longer than that, most vaccines do. Generally a booster is probably going to also contain what we need for the new variants.

Early doses from the clinical studies have hit over year now haven't they? The public early doses are from last winter though. No signs of booster shot info and I'd like to know if I need another shot altogether now.

Apparently they tested people who got covid a year ago and found they still had ample antibodies

So I'd imagine we can go longer than 6 months

^This.

Data suggests that any need for a booster dose will be due to the emergence of newer variants as opposed to the waning immunity effect of the vaccine itself.

There's no "expiration." Simply tentative dates that are ever changing based off of continued research and data.

Until I go on vacation this fall and am at high risk of getting it because the tentative date is well past its expectation.
