There's not too too much here, but some highlights for me are that they are confirming that Yuffie will meet up with Cloud and co., so the presumption is that she will be written into the plot (along with Vincent) and won't just be a DLC side story character.

Other tidbits are their outlook on the remake aspect: "it's of utmost importance not to damage the memories from the source material while reimagining it so it surpasses people's expectations."

Which implies to me that big moments will stay the same but small moments may differ, so hopefully that means no bullshit like Aerith living past her time or what have you. But it's still pretty vague overall.

I've always felt there was no chance Yuffie and Vincent stay optional in Remake, but it's nice Yuffie got something extra. I wouldn't be surprised if they give Vincent something, too.

Maybe the best part of the episodic release is being able to test what the fanbase thinks about bad ideas and walking them back.

After they wrote in time ghosts, Sephiroth changing the timeline, and Biggs and possibly Jessie living, I'd be very surprised if Aerith actually dies for real this time. I think we're getting an everyone lives ending.

The best part of Remake is that they've restored Aerith's original characterization instead of the impossibly pure and innocent character they made her into starting with KH.

Yeah, in the grand scheme of things, Biggs, Wedge,Jessie, and even Zack surviving are fairly small changes (since Zack didn't become important until Crisis Core).

I'm surprised people have so little faith in the developers and writers for this game. It's probably because "everyone's gonna live cus they changed mah ff7 original"

I am so SO happy that we don't know exactly what's going to happen going forward. They are still going to hit the same plot beats and story that the original did, but now we have that element that we don't know what and how will be altered. That element of surprise MAKES this for me.

If you don't think anyone's going to die and that everything is going to be honky dory after alls said and done, then maybe you missed the fact that the ghosts have been eliminated. They don't exist anymore.

I expect Aerith will still die, but it'll gut wrench us even more than the original did.

I feel like if they DON'T change something major, it'll make the remake ghosts in Part 1 even more pointless? They could have easily just made the small changes and extended universe tie-ins they did without the whole big metanarrative aspect and not get much complaining. I get why maybe they'd decide against it because it's a pretty divisive prospect, but they were doing a killer job of it in Part 1.

I honestly think they are going to lead us down a path that we think Aerith might not die, that we can save her from her fate or something.

But she will, and they are going to have it hit hard.

The ghosts were there for padding because they needed more content to dedicate an entire game to Midgar

It's a difficult tightrope to walk and it's going to be impossible to make everyone happy, but if it's as good as the first in terms of gameplay (as well as music and graphics) I'll be happy, even if the story doesn't 100% stick the landing.

I haven't played FF7R but the main problem with episodic games is that they aren't usually cohesive, as they are in-progress long after the first episode comes out. Something that seems major in part 1 might become very minor or completely written out by the end as the writers' priorities shift and they change their plans to fit what has been well-received so far etc. I wouldn't look at part 1 as some gospel truth that they'll definitely adhere to going forward.

That said I can't see any way they would write this that wouldn't include that one major FF7 spoiler, it would be such a core betrayal of the game. They may well change the circumstances to keep people on their toes, but there's no way they won't do it imo.

I just live for more character interactions. I want to see more of Red XIII and when he opens up more to the party.

I want to see Cait Sith and really hope they expand on his (and by that measure, Reeve's) story. I think there's a lot of unexplored potential there. I'm really hoping they dive into that.

Outside of the ending sequence I don't think a ton of gameplay padding is dedicated to the ghosts compared to other padding like sidequests and repeated dungeons. I think there's only two fights outside of that? They're mostly there to have dramatic story setpieces, hence my point being they get very obviously more pointless if the story reason for including them doesn't matter.

Three-part remake

Part 1 - fantastic start. Released to critical and fan acclaim.
Part 2 - Aerith dies at the end. Provides the strongest possible hook for the finale.
Part 3 - wraps it up, obviously.

As soon as I played Part 1 a few months ago, this is the way I envisioned this remake going. Any more than three separate games (especially if they're also doing DLC between them) would really kill the overall project's momentum - there's a reason why trilogies have been a popular/consistent way of delivering big stories for so long.

Yes, because there's a rabid fanbase who would blast them for changing anything, and now they've given themselves an in-universe to take some liberties. It doesn't mean they're overhauling the major plot points.

I expect there to be multiple timelines in play in part 2. With original timeline, Zach Lives timeline, and Avalanche lives timeline all existing.

I mean, I thought the ghosts were stupid and bogged the game down every time they showed up, so I'm glad they're gone, but I appreciate the effort they went to in order to establish a potential alternate timeline and stimulate discussion while waiting for new episodes.

I will be very upset if Cait isn't playable in part 2. He's the team member I'm most excited to see how he plays.

Sure I like Red more, but his playstyle seems like it'd be pretty straight forward. Cait on the other hand, they could do so many a number of things, so I'm excited to see what they do.
