One of my favorites that's told purely through atmosphere and scattered lines of dialogue/text. I'm not usually a fan of that style, but Bloodborne does it extremely well.

hmm... this is hard to say. It's a solid 10 in terms of visual presentation, world creation, etc. Most of that is built in through the lore, which I guess is part of the story, even if it's not so much directly told as part of the story. And even then the lore wouldn't be as fascinating without relying on the creature design, the world aesthetics, etc.

I'm not a huge fan of the Souls-esque method of storytelling, where half of the lore requires either reading the fine print on random items just in case they say something important or reading the wiki for explanation. It's not terrible but it's becoming more and more overused lately imo as everything wants to be a Soulslike

I'll go 9/10

Some of the best use of lore storytelling in gaming. Everything is written to be as scary, hostile & hopeless as possible with roots in real world events and some of the best cosmic horror in the business.

5.5/10 for Bloodborne. It's got atmosphere, I'll give it that, but the story overall didn't do anything for me.

10/10 for Doki Doki Literature Club. Just finished it (got the "neutral" ending) and thought the story was brilliant. Loved the way they contrasted the innocuous anime girls with the horror elements. Loved how meta the game was, and how it still managed emotional impact when the girls' depression was revealed. Is the true ending worth another full playthrough or should I just YouTube it? No spoilers please.

This one probably starts as like an 8.5 for me but only gets worse and worse the further you play. Definitely one of those stories that knows how to set up really compelling mysteries but not how to answer them later.

Ranks 2nd for FromSoftware stories. It is close to Dark Souls and quite a margin above the rest.

The dlc really does a lot for bloodborne. Without the dlc it's pretty good, but then with the dlc it's perfect.
