Whenever I have dinner with my family, or we have friend and family over, my mom and sister always talk about the latest gossip within our immediete friends and family.

They're the only ones that do this. While my father will sometimes respond to it, I just stay quiet all the time. Not because I don't care, but because I know that what other people are going through is none of my business. Yet my mother and sister both just talk about about other peoples shit endlessly.

I've always wondered the same thing. I worked at a bakery for a few years awhile back and probably 85% of the line workers were women so it wasn't uncommon for me to be the only guy there and all they ever did was gossip. We had rotating breaks so 2-3 people would go at a time and then take over for the next few when they got back and the second a given girl would leave for her break the rest would start talking shit about her and then act like best friends the rest of the day (the ones talking shit being talked shit about in turn).

It was so ridiculous when I talked to one of the leads about it he let me break company policy and wear wireless headphones to drown them out. At least I got to do that until some of the girls noticed and started complaining, as if they would do anything but talk all day even if they could wear them too.

It isnt a woman thing. Its a people thing. Most people love gossip. People that say they dont are often some of the biggest gossips around.

I think it's true women do it more than men, I heard this all the time growing up it's kind of a gender stereotype. Certainly all my mother likes to do is watch drama shows, try to gossip to anyone remotely receptive and interject herself into any drama happening around her.

But that doesn't mean only women do it, personally I'm guilty of it too although that was mostly when I was younger. And like IBC said that's pretty much all we do on this site is create and respond to drama sooooo

And it wasn't just work either just generally on the street you hear that stuff. Stereotypes exist for a reason. Guys gossip somewhat but it's very one note. Basically just sex. Whoever they banged/banging, baby mama drama, money issues with women etc. Even if its about work its still sexual, like who is banging who in the office. I think the impression that women gossip more is just that they have more to gossip about and are not so one track minded.

I'm pretty sure the chance of any given woman with a child bringing them up in conversation approaches 100% the longer the conversation goes on.

Another thing from my experience that I remember is how disjointed the gossiping and conversations were. Like it's kinda hard to explain but it was as if each one wanted to talk about a different subject so as soon as they started talking they would attempt to alter the flow of conversation, which is usually a somewhat rude thing to do except since all of them were doing it it somehow evened out? Like a watered down example would be:

Woman A: "hey did you hear so and so's boyfriend got locked up again? Why does she date a loser like that?"
Woman B: "oh wow I hadn't heard that, but wasn't that bullshit when the manager said we need to focus more on our work this morning? All he does in the office is mess around on a computer, we're doing the real work!"
Woman C: "Well most of us are, but that new girl who started is so damn lazy it makes me sick, she was saying she isn't used to work like this but that's no excuse!"
Woman A: "Yeah I know who you're talking about, she is pretty lazy, even more than so and so, heck maybe that's why she dates a thug since if he's locked up she doesn't need to do anything for him hahaha, oh did I mention he got locked up again?"
Woman B: "Hehehe well at least she won't be able to try to get him a job here, although I heard the manager and the new guy in HR will hire pretty much anyone. God we need a woman in charge around here..."
Woman C: "As long as she's nothing like the new girl, did you two notice she took 20 minutes on her 15 minute break yesterday? If I have to work with her I'm not picking up her slack I'll say that."

It'slike none of them were actually interested in anything the others were saying but they talked for 8 hours straight everyday all the same. I'm getting mild pstd just recalling it.

You honestly don't get just how much women like to talk about children? Or gossip about who's having a baby. Its everywhere. Maybe you actively avoid that since you say you don't want any. What I'd say is negative gossip aside, women convo is rather more sophisticated. I'm able to talk about more to a female (if she gets the ball rolling) than a man. I was actually saying women don't necessarily gossip more than men just they have a wider variety of gossipy topics. Men gossip a lot but only about one or 2 areas. It's not about class and education either. I worked somewhere where a bunch of big shots had masters degrees etc and outside of their big meetings and conferences the level of convo between the men was the same as guys on the block. Basically just sex. Not even sports cause these were academia types.

I imagine a lot of the women you know are mothers, and if I had a kid I feel like I would discuss them from time to time...especially with other parents.

You do seem to be generalizing a lot, as my brother won't stfu about his children. I love the little sex goblins, but they will definitely have more interesting stories in the future than pointing at Blue on the TV.

Also, a lot of women's gossip is sex too js. Idk if public education failed anyone here, but sex is where babies come from also.

I mean of course its general. I dunno why you guys act like people are always talking about every single person of every group on whatever issue. There are obviously exceptions, that doesn't have to be pointed out all the time. That said, this kind of behaviour is common enough to be noted.

When I say sex I mean just that and that alone. Not family and babies and whatever. Maybe it's a culture thing but men here don't talk about children like that unless they are physically there. Or achieved something they can brag about. And the sex thing is about bragging rights. The younger girls would talk about their hot man or whatever but it's not them bragging about being a thot. Guys love bragging like that.

Yeah but in this case not. People in here are just using their own personal experience in offices etc. Like that guy started this whole thing by talking about what he sees with his co workers. And I recalled seeing a lot of that too myself after reading his post. But then I get called as satire for something that's pretty basic, at least around here and apparently other places too. I wonder where people like Jen live it must be glorious. Nobody ever said every single person in their office behaved like this but it's enough to be noted. And its dumb to have to keep pointing that out when I say "guys" or whatever. Do you people want names and addresses?
