I may watch Dawn tonight yet or just watch something else, IDK yet
I give it a 7.5/10. It was a great action movie but lacking the "whole end of civilization" aspect of the old movie, although I think the virus that killed humans implied that it was GETTING there.
Does that start in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes?

There's a time skip I think so yeah. Looked it up the description says 10 years has passed and most of humanity is wiped out. You're in for a treat those other two movies are good.

The trilogy was good but I feel like the finale lacked oomph

That wasn't even really the whole point of the old movie. There's a fair bit of subtext there that most people completely miss because they hyper-focus on the ending alone.

It was. For a series of movies based on a franchise that had petered out decades earlier, starting with a film that feels like a remake/reboot prequel, it kind of feels like the whole thing should be incredibly cheesy, lame, and pointless. But it actually works pretty well.

Andy Serkis might be like 70% of the reason the movies work, though. He's like a crazy mo-cap genius.

I finished Dawn last night as well. Both films were on my Starz free month trial.
Apes invading human territory combat scene was exciting
I can rent War for 5 dollars CAD on Amazon Prime. I may watch it tonight that way

Just finished and yeah, but...I guess this isn't even supposed to be the last film.
From quick research, looks like the new movie is still being worked on and Covid affected production, but not too much given that the movie has a ton of CGI.
Hopefully they give us a time frame soon.
New movie is gonna be where the og Planet of the Apes is, in terms of timeline.
