overall pretty solid case for a case 1! a bit long-winded but even though the early contradictions were a little bizarre and the later ones kind of forced/obvious, they were at least all mostly sensible - as opposed to that nonsensical 45-minute diversion into the swapped plates

also builds a lot of hype with all the breadcrumbs about papa mikotoba. looks like we were right to be ultra-suspicious of this dude!

i'll give you that, but there was no promise that that one would amount to anything - it was so completely random and never-mentioned again, whereas (for example) mcgilded's goings-on and mikotoba's shadiness had way better hooks to them!

also if soseki is really gonna be the defendant again UGH

shamspeare is amazing. i'm loving this case. trial 2 is beginning and while i don't understand the motive for framing soseki, it seems clear he knew the murderer who died - perhaps was related, as we've seen his mask slip a little. it also send to indicate he killed the last remnant and is behind the curse and soseki's issues with gas and sleeping

here we go!

so, obviously i had no clue that the victim was blowing on the lamp's pipe - we knew he was probably responsible for tampering with the gas, but not how. the sunstone examinations are ridiculous, but the details cleaned from them are wonderful

and if course because we only learned this during the trial itself, i had no idea who to suspect. i'd continued to suspect shamspeare of poisoning himself

but when asked, it seemed on me who had the motive, and was suspiciously somewhere she shouldn't be, and meet someone at shamspeare's favorite pub, and recently had been seen with poison...

one of the best executed twists for sure - love this. and while he is genuinely a garbage murderer, shamspeare really does think natsume postponed him - or at least was prepared to throw him under the bus.

the only part that's truly unclear right now - what is shamspeare's motive for trying to kill his upstairs neighbors? if it done sort of vengeance for his brother? i imagine that'll come deep into this cross examination with olive....

just wrapped the case. really well set up, though the execution of most of the final trial segment was a little iffy. not a lot of buildup; a lot of redundant comments (soseki definitely swears he's going home after G1-4, for one)

but i reaaaally like the setup with dual murders, especially olive as a "loose end" and soseki's haunted mansion being tied up in the most satisfying possible way. that said i think we could've done just as well if shamspeare and metermann weren't introduced in g1-4.

i commented before that i felt g1-4 was the best social commentary of the series. g2-2 is a better case (probably the best of the GAA cases so far), and it has somewhat similar of a fascinating with how the other half lives - loved delving into the gas - but that part is understandably less of a focus with so much more "murder plot," and revisiting familiar ground

i do like the continued hype for hound of the baskervilles

yup, definitely noted that.

i'm actually pretty surprised there's a true pre-trial investigation. we started the day late - 9:26 am. then we spent time with sholmes, hoofed it to stronghart's office, and waited 4 hours and 23 minutes or something like that - that'd put us leaving at like 3 pm from stronghart's office given that he bored the bajesus out of us with his love if forensic science. so then a trip to van zieks', two trips to the prison, and now two hours spent in the crowds at the crystal palace... what is it, like 6pm already?

this game is exciting though. i'm reminded of aai2 for sure where you can kind of dive into the good stuff. the crystal tower was set up as a finale-esque area, but we're here already! guess the forensic science part is still yet to come.

also gina's theme and iris's themes are low points of this soundtrack

(also, i'm suddenly reminded that the annoying gina/gregson song is *not* gina's theme, which is now playing and is considerably better - but still not top notch like so many of the others)
