So, does Diablo 2 LoD launch both Diablo 2 and the expansion? I don't understand. Btw I'm playing through Diablo 1 and 2 because I've never played them before.

Yeah LoD launches the entire game once you have it installed. Its normal for it to replace the old desktop icon.

The expansion version of the game replaces the original one. You can still create and play classic characters if you don't want the expansion features.

Basically, LoD integrates itself into Diablo II. So it effectively becomes Diablo II+. LoD isn't a stand-alone that can be launched separately.

It is so sad what is going on with Activision-Blizzard... I haven't gotten WarCraft III: Reforged, and I am sure as heck I won't be getting any of the new Diablos (Resurrected, Immortal, or IV).

Lord of Destruction is still great even by today's standards.

I preordered D2R already. Im gonna play it and enjoy it but I dont feel great about it. Im gonna try to keep in mind that a lot of people worked on the game and chances are the majority of them arent shitheads.

Ill be hesitant to buy anything else from them again though unless theres some substantial evidence that they actually make some difficult changes.

Sadly, I agree.

Worse, because it is so endemic, it can make the people who do take a stand on certain issues come across as being either ignorant or hypocritical - ie, someone who is willing to boycott Chick-fil-A over the conservatism of its management but who is still willing to use an iPhone in spite of multiple and repeated stories about how they're essentially made in Asian sweat shops are essentially making the statement "I only take moral stances when it's convenient" or "I only take moral stances that directly affect me or people I care about, and ignore the rest."

It's very hard to exist in the modern world without being complicit in all kinds of shady shit. Even people who consider themselves very moral and willing to avoid doing business with ethically questionable businesses are still likely supporting a number of businesses that are doing terrible things of one sort or another.

I wouldn't criticize you for your decision. Most people have developed at least a bit of "separate the art from the artist" or "separate the product from the producer" mentality as part of modern life, mostly as a self-defense against the sheer amount of terrible shit in the world... and it's part of who we are as a species (it's pretty much hardwired into humans that on some level, we have a much harder time caring about issues in the abstract or people as a whole - we have a limited amount of "giving a shit" about people available to our brainpower).

I'm mostly just pointing out that, if you feel like you shouldn't support a specific company because of how horrible they are, that specific justification really isn't much of a defense. You're not really helping the victims at all in any way, and are just helping to pay the salaries of the people responsible. If you really care, don't support the company period, at least until there is clear evidence that the problem has been well and truly dealt with.

A lot of people online would recommend pirating at this point, but I honestly don't support that either, because it comes across feeling like an incredibly entitled mentality to have ("I don't want you to have money for this game because you're bad, but I still demand to be able to play it because I'm selfish"). Much better to just not play the game. It's not as if there's a shortage of other distractions in the modern world.

I do sincerely care, and Im still going to reluctantly support the company by buying and playing the game, simply because I very much want to play the game. Theres some hypocrisy to be sure, but Im okay with it.

I honestly only bought classic Diablo 2 last night, on Blizzard's online store, for 10 dollars each (D2 and LoD are sold separately in the store). I feel not-very-shitty because they were inexpensive.
I may pre-order the bundle of the D2 remaster eventually that includes Diablo 3, then I'll pretty much have everything Diablo on PC.

Over the years I have tried other Blizzard games Starcraft, WoW, and Warcraft. The RTS games were too goddamn hard, even though they're great games, they just aren't for me. WoW had a fucking awful community so I hate it for that alone. Playing Diablo 1 on GoG has taught me that it's really the only Blizzard series I like, lol
I don't think it's necessarily bad if I only support one Blizzard franchise.

New World is supposed to be the true WoW killer, or I guess more specifically, Blizzard killed itself and now New World takes the throne. You could cancel all your WoW subs and pre-order Nrew World....but then you're supporting Amazon which has had it's own share of human rights abuses lately.
But really who DOESN'T shop on Amazon :/

I'm still going through Diablo 1 first, but one thing I would like to know, does Diablo 2 let you do a new game+ sorta thing where you start the game with the same stats and such? Would be cool to use if I wanna play on a higher difficulty or something

D2 with the expansion was insanely good for it's time. Phantasy star online was great as well, but D2LoD was the real first amazing multiplayer online game (even if you could only play with a few people). I even enjoyed the PVP aspects sometime (about the only game that has ever been true of other than Doom back in the day.

I am on the fence about the remaster as graphics don't make a diff to me (Literally replaying World of Xeen right now). IF they add new content, do another patch to make new synergies or something, that might draw me in, but otherwise I'd just play the old version instead (probably with Pluggy so I can play offline but still have the online stuff).

As far as supporting Blizzard, honestly the people who are gonna get money from it are so rich already nothing really matters, it's just how much money they get, and if the franchise is profitable enough for them to continue investing in it in the future. If you like a game, buy it and play it. If you don't buy it, there will be no other games like it (at least from that company) and the only people who are really hurt are the customers who like that type of game.

The owners etc will make money in other ways. The employees will get jobs on other projects. Not playing a game because of politics is pointless.

That's exactly how it works in d2. You have to beat lower difficulty to go to higher and you keep your stats and equipment.

Another way to increase difficulty is to set number of players higher.

Nog there are 3 difficulties you play through, each is harder with bigger penalties (non in normal), but also higher monster levels and therefore drops.

If your not playing with other people, there at least used to be a program called pluggy that would let you set the # of players to a higher number (which ups the monster difficulty, item drop rate and exp) along with other things that you normally had to be online for. I still think I have it on my computer.

I'm not sure if it's active at all online at this point, but I don't think I played online last time I played it (a few years ago).

I always considered Diablo 1 to be the "single player version" while Diablo 2 was the multiplayer one. Funny enough, when the creators left Blizzard and formed Runic Games, they did the same thing with Torchlight.

Diablo 1 I bought on GoG a long time ago. I think it's on sale right now. It's the only place you can digitally buy the game. Not even Blizzard store has it for some reason.

You don't need another program to set # of players. You can just set it in the game. Gamefaqs tells you how

Yeah after one of the later updates you could use the players X command to change the challenge and reward level in single player

its fun to sometimes start a character out at players 8 and then after a while of struggling to grind and just stay alive, switching it back down to players 1-2 and just gliding right through enemies

The physical copy of the Diablo 2 battle chest had it. Although mine also had a copy of disc two of Blade: The Series in it.
