Remind me, "intermittent fasting" is eating the same amount of daily food, but during a shorter, restricted, part of the day?

Yes, only defined by a long (12+, often 16 hour) duration with zero calories. Essentially only water, tea and coffee with zero adulterants.

It seems to me that the review is saying.

Autopaghy, which is a process that recycles degraded and damaged organelles or other cellular parts. Has benefits to the immune system.

It is also decreased during a nutrient rich environment and increased during a nutrient low environment.

So they supposed that by fasting you would increase autopaghy and therefore better equip yourself to fight off an infection such as covid.

There was also a mention of reducing inflammation by fasting as well, which can help immune response.

However, it seems there is no experimental trial done to confirm or deny it would help against covid ( they specifically say covid but i did not see experiments referenced for general infection either)

It also says it is strongly advised not to do IF if you already have covid.

Is this right? I dont understand most of the biochemical terms.

Which just sounds horrendous. I need breakfast to function. Also, eating everything I need to function in a day, thus ignoring snacks, in less time, will just upset my stomach. I eat slowly and meals are spread out over the day to help with it as well.

I don't see how OMAD is possible unless you're actively trying to be in a caloric deficit. I can cram in about 2000 kcal in a single meal over an hour if I'm focused. There's no way I could get 3800 kcal in a single meal while getting enough fiber. So yeah, OMAD might work if you're overweight and trying to lose fat, but don't see it working for me trying to maintain.

Oh, no wonder. You can't expect your metabolism to suddenly reprogram itself. It may take a couple weeks to become adapted.

Being concerned about having stable blood glucose should actually convince you to do intermittent fasting, seeing as that's one of the best studied and well-established benefits.

Yes, it takes willpower/discipline to get there, but you can do it.

Sorry to hear. Diagnosed with Type I? Don't do IF.

Otherwise, not yet diagnosed with Type II? IF helps prevent its development/progression.

While I have many familial problems myself, as of yet, diabetes is not one of them.

Those problems combined with keeping up mental health, I really would not want to do something that would definitely make me miserable for a couple of weeks, for uncertain results.

It isn't a study, they're just saying that this might be worth looking into and it would make sense for it to be true.

So long as you're truly not consuming any calories at other times, yes. The no snacking part is what gets a lot of people.

Oh. Well then, it would make sense for it to be true and it might be worth looking into, but I'm skeptical that there'd be any appreciable improvement above the baseline improvement associated with better-managed weight. As an effective way to manage weight, IF would be a decent strategy to access that benefit, but I don't know that attributing any Covid resistance to it directly is reasonable.

Krazy_Kirby posted...

Skipping meals is mostly just unhealthy because it destabilizes your eating schedule (it's generally good for you to eat around the same times every day) and you end up with an unhealthy caloric deficit. If you're making sure you still get enough calories for the day and your eating schedule remains reasonably consistent, you can certainly skip meals healthily.

Coffee mate is going to be breaking the fast. Cream also will break your fast, but if it's pure cream (zero carbs) it's at least not going to kick you out of ketosis.

Of all the interactions you could have with Clench that might justify blocking him so you cut down on the number of scientifically literate people you have to see disagreeing with you on this board, this is perhaps one of the least plausible ones you could have chosen.
