Atmosphere is great, but the pacing is wonky and the Social Links are severely outclassed by P4 and P5.

The final third of it or so is legit Greatest of All Time material, but god is the pacing terrible for most of it. Social Links are in their infancy here and it shows. The best game I can never in good faith recommend to anyone.

10 - theres so much I love about this game. The story can be slow at points, but I found it really interesting and there were a lot of great moments in it. Some comedy gold, some serious moments, lots of great atmosphere, good social links, good character dialogue, etc. The last part is especially strong and Im still waiting for a goddamn definitive edition release of this game.

The concept of death and learning to live in spite of it is pretty much omnipresent in the game. This itself creates a pretty compelling atmosphere, but the way that the gameplay, story, major character arcs, and social links all play into this amplifies the whole experience and pushes it over the top for me. It helps that this theme is especially resonant with me in particular, but I do hold this story in extremely high regard. The cast of characters is also really strong and the final chapter of the game is one of the best of all time imo.

Persona 4 was one of the 2 other examples I had yes. Well, assuming you just mean the "thematic consistency" bit, since I think the specific themes of Persona 4 are a bit different. (The other example being Undertale, for the record)

Yeah, I'd replace the themes of life and death with the themes of truth and lies in that post, since those are the major themes P4 tackles, but yeah, that one really resonated with me in a way few other games have. P3 handled its themes super well, too, but I think P4's hit a bit closer to home for me.

Has the best story of the three "modern" Persona titles, but the weakest main cast at the same time. It lacks 4's electric cast chemistry and 5's hook, but manages to be this dark, twisted depressive shit in a way that's oddly gratifying. THAT ENDING THO ;_: The ONE problem is that its characters are mostly uninteresting and underdeveloped, which in turn makes it harder to invest in them. Also Ken.
