anyway ok here is my sonic 2 zone top 4(?) and why
1) Hill Top - The environment is SO COOL it's like "normal" but with just enough things to shake it up like the LAVA or vertigo-inducing high-up feeling and all these exceptions to what would otherwise be "generic grass level" that make it elevated to amazing tier for me. it cemented in my head how much i've realized i like to see things like lava in games in areas where one wouldn't expect it (a thing i go out of my way to look for ever since playing this). love the cyan-ish color scheme. i'm not as enthusiastic about the song as others in this topic, but i do like FM synth harmonica a lot as a sound so that's a nice instrument element there. 2) Aquatic Ruin - Easily favorite song in the game, ancient ruins are cool especially those sorts of pillars. flashy water effects are great, colorful rock textures are so fun. just lots to love about this one and i always get excited when i get here in the game. again i'm really attracted to the color scheme here in a similar way to hill-top; off shades of blue-green just do a lot for me for some reason. i dont have a problem with water levels as much as many others do, but i'm impressed at how 'non-annoying' this particular one is able to be at that too 3) Wing Fortress - mechanical places in the sky are a cool within-sonic-games trope i feel and this is the first instance of such a thing. not as cool as later flying battery and stuff, but i'm glad it's there. its so different from everything before somehow and works great as a near-finale to me. 4) Oil Ocean? - cool not really confident in my ranking of the rest actually; i wasnt as attached to sonic 2 as 3&later but honestly looking back at it from this topic, consistently cool levels imo, have something positive to say about almost every level in the game --- time ... Well uh I accidentally voted for Casino Night, a level I don't even like and think is the most overrated in the series, instead of Chemical Plant

Sad to see Aquatic Ruin go, but I can't really determine which of those top 4 were my favorite song, so it's sad to see any of them die, but great whatever ends up winning!
