I love how they optimize the route trees and how your choices change what the other characters do. Great cast, some really cool twists, and somehow oddly relevant in 2021.

The addition of voice acting in the game allowed me to invest in the story more. It was also very cohesive without falling off the stupid tree like ZTD would eventually do.

Weird game. Quite honestly, I should give it a 10, but the way the game ends is so unsatisfying. I get why they did that and I'm fine with rating just VLR, but it's just always unsatisfying.

That said, VLR is just really, really good. It's a masterclass on using the decision tree to create compelling mysteries and characters. The core cast of VLR is really, really good and provides some of the most memorable scenes in the series. I always love these types of games and how much your order of playing influences your enjoyment of the overall game.

I mean, I can barely remember honestly. Maybe I didn't mean "multiple playthroughs" so much as "multiple decision branches?" All I know is that I didn't want to keep playing to get the "full picture." I got to a certain point and had enough.

I'm not going to rate the story because I honestly didn't get far enough to feel like I know enough about it, but the writing in the first hour of the game was so atrocious I didn't go any farther. The voice acting probably didn't help.
