A coworker was telling a story how her daughter was talking about math. The daughter (in 3rd grade iirc) was asked 50 times 57. She proceeded to Google it.

When asked why she didnt use a calculator, she replied Mom, I use technology.

Ignoring the kid opted to Google on their phone instead of swiping in the calculator function, I feel disconnected from a generation for the first time.

Standalone calculators are becoming the new typewriter.

If it makes you feel better, I asked my niece, who is 5, if a calculator was technology. She also said no.

I still have my Titanium from about 2005 and don't know how to work half the shit on it.

Was about $140 back then.

I'm debating on getting one of the new fangled ones.

I mean are kids allowed to use google during math exams? Because that's why standalone calculators are still a thing they're allowed in math exams and google isn't.

Also in 3rd grade really you should be doing multiplication by hand as practice not googling it.

Can't your phone do everything a ti-89 can do, and more?

wtf counts as technology anyways? If you use a rock to sharpen a stick, does that now sharpened stick become technology?

Of course.
