Milwaukee Brewers starter Corbin Burnes throws 8 no-hit innings with 14 strikeouts, and Josh Hader closes out the 9th inning without allowing a hit. The two pitchers combine to no-hit the Cleveland Indians in the record-setting 9th no-hitter thrown in the majors this season... and that's not including a pair of no-hitters that happened in shortened 7-inning doubleheader games and therefore don't count as "official" no-hitters.

I saw Burnes had taken the no-no into the eighth, but didn't know what came after that. Good on him -- he's having an MVP-caliber season.

He's definitely in Cy Young contention for sure.

Ive never heard of a pitcher being taken out after a no-hitter through 8. Did he get hurt or something?

Still though, I dont understand not giving him a chance. Take him out in 5 or 6 if youre worried about injury, not with 3 outs away from a no-hitter.

He threw a lot of pitches. I think he was already at about 100 after the 7th, then he convinced the manager to leave him in for the 8th and he got up to 115 pitches. Between the really high pitch count, the fact that the game was still close enough to be a save situation, and the playoffs coming up soon, it makes all the sense in the world to take him out and bring in the closer.
