Theres always a full episode dedicated to someones backstory. It feels unbelievably lazy. Its especially bad for antagonists.

It telegraphs when that character will die/do something important.

Its especially bad when a character is around for seasons but their backstory doesnt even drop fragments until a flashback infodump happens.

This isn't just an anime thing.

Its mainly one. Books, western shows, etc sprinkle in backstory. Only anime have characters like Kisame lasting 500 million episodes only to have his entire backstory dumped on us in the end.

Most Shonen anime has to be done expediently. Writers often don't have time to go into deep backstories.
