It happened in Ontario, Canada at Vale's Totten Mine where the miners went to refuge stations as part of protocol where there is food and water and the ability to contact loved ones As of now, 4 are still trapped and are still climbing since Sunday MORNING!! One of the first miners out tells the meia he was higher up than others so his trek up the ladder was shorter He said the 1850 foot level climb began where it took him in total 2 hours and 50 minutes to get out with breaks every 40 minutes to take a breather. He said it was a long trek and hard on the arms and it wasn't alike a cave in or out but just a long ladder. He said they remained positive with other men behind him where they made jokes and used a telephone to call loved ones to make it easier It's unclear how long food and after will last but one of the miner's wives is concerned for her husband who is one of the 4 still trapped and climbing She said they received bags of chocolate bars, energy bars but says it is not a well balanced meal to provide energy to those men who have to climb 3100 feet to safety. The rescue operation is still underway with 33 of the minors are out Miners who can't make it all the way up will be pulled up using ropes Could you do a job like this? https://i.imgur.com/ZQs0NK3.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ruhRUEu.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wE0glAP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CvS4mbH.jpg --- The Users have Spoken. At first I was like, bah, 1 mile, 1690 meters? That isn't that much, how could it take that long to climb.
Then I did some calculations and determined it would actually take something like 20 hours of straight climbing to make. Factor in breaks and sleep and I can see how they are still going after 2 days. Lucky they can stop along the way to rest etc. I'm guessing the "rope" option is a last resort because of the length of the rope required/weight incurred etc, so they are hoping they at least get much closer to the surface before using a rope/pulley system. --- Tacobot 3000 "Saving the world from not having tacos."
