There's a difference between silent protagonist... and whatever Steve is.

I've played Minecraft... my experience was making a character, joining a sever and playing online with a bunch of friends.

Where was Steve in that?

Absolutely fucking nowhere. And I'm guessing a lot of people's experiences with Minecraft are similar.

So sure, you have your silent protags (And honestly I wouldn't defend a good chunk of them. I don't like Villager or Inkling as choices either). But IMO Steve is the biggest offender of "non character"

You can be a silent protagonist and still have character. I would argue only Red (who the game clearly isnt about) and the utterly worthless Steve has no character.

Between all of Steve's moves and taunts, he exudes a ton of personality. He shows more than other fellow fighter pass characters like Joker and Byleth. You don't need sound clips to have character.

The two exceptions being maybe Greninja and definitely Incineroar, But Greninja was chosen because of the anime where he has buckets of personality and charisma, and syncs with Ash to share his personality

Anyways, I'm not actually upset. I've already come to terms with it all in terms of these fighter passes. Sora's fine, it makes a TON of people happy. Just disappointed with the bulk of FP2

The problem with Kazuya isn't the character, its his mechanics vis a vis being a broken sack of garbage.

I unfortunately see Sora having the "Bayonetta in Smash 4/Metaknight in Brawl" problem of getting characters 0-death at the ceiling.

the pokemon chosen in Smash are not the specific instances of their talking iterations - Greninja's the only possible exception

not even Pikachu gets to claim being Ash's Pikachu

Frankly I would have been more satisfied with Jessie (the protagonist of the Telltale games) being added instead of Steve.

Im actually still trying to wrap my head around this whole post. Like, besides the multiple games where they talk and have personalities thing, listing Incineroar as the big exception to having a personality when hes by far the Pokmon in Smash that has the MOST personality is very confusing to me.

i know. But do the spin-offs not count.

the main games are more about you as a human saving the world, and achieving your dreams etc.

The point is, the Pokemon dont represent a specific character just that species and the Pokemon series (an argument could maybe be made for the Kanto starters being Reds specifically). Similarly, Steve doesnt represent a specific character, just the player character of Minecraft and the Minecraft series.

I think 2 time in fact, but I cant remember if Alolan Raichu also won.

I certainly was more interested in the Hero reveal than either Sora or any 2nd FFVII rep, and my familiarity with the series starts and stops at XI, excluding DQM.

Sure, I would have rather had Sylvando, but that wasn't happening.

Frankly, claiming that Hero was a pick nobody cares about or wants is so blatantly ignorant of the reality of DQ in Japan that it borders on xenophobic! /s

I wasnt talking about personality in Smash. I was saying I cant really think of a Pokmon spin off since Sun Moon that went and showed off her personality and had him talk, where as I can think of ones for all the previous except Greninja.

DQ Hero was probably way more requested than Crono. Hes interchangeable really and DQ is still incredibly relevant in Japan. Crono Id say would have better odds than Geno at least, but I wouldnt think either stood much of a chance at all

I'm only seeing happy smash fans around my online circles so I'm also glad the fan base is happy

In stark opposite of DQ Hero, there are definitely quite a few Japanese characters with a huge western followings that causes people not to realize how irrelevant they at in Japan itself, Chrono being one of them. It's the Cowboy Bebop Effect.

Geno is not popular anywhere, that's just a bunch fringe loonies.

I didnt say they were. Pokmon is a very visual driven game obviously, and most people fall in love with Pokmon just because of design, though some is because they were good in game as well. But the spin-offs show why they are amazing more than just (glowy big flying green Dragon)

yeah but the point is the people who care about that part is immensely insignificant

Definitely gotta disagree with this. Unite alone has made me a fan of Pokmon that would have never cared about without it. And it's been the same with tons of other spin offs, and I've even had this conversation with other people too lol.

Honestly when Smash 4 came out I already said "I'll be satisfied if they just keep rereleasing this game on the next console instead of a whole new game"

The idea of a new Smash game honestly frightens me to lose out on the massive roster we got.... although tbqh 90% of the Ultimate DLC has definitely given me apathy that I would not care to lose so *shrug* maybe I'll be fine with some loss but obviously I don't wanna lose the ones I do like!

Its done. And to be honest it probably should be. So many series just go on and on forever, and dont have a correct stopping point. Ultimate cant be topped, and then to try it will just be a shell of what Ultimate was. This is the apex, this is the correct stopping point.

It seems like the biggest requests are now Crash, Dante, Doomguy, and Master Chief.

With how Dante and Doomguy got Mii Costumes, I would argue they might be locks for the next Smash.
