Current Events > Hypothetical: Your daughter cures cancer via grotesquely immoral means.

Your daughter was an average fighter but she was a brilliant scientist. Only she could come up with a potential effective cure for cancer.

However due to her complete lack of ethics, she was kicked out of the scientific community and lost her medical licence.

After that she went off the radar for many years until she re-emerges out of the blue with a fully effective cancer treatment that rocks medical science.

It turns out she was abducting people, mainly prostitutes, the homeless and drug addicts. People who wouldn't cause much attention by going missing.

Then she performed terrible experiments/tests on them. Resulting in hundreds of deaths (Including her husband) and serious severe health consequences as well as pain.



She vindicates herself claiming that the ends justify the means and whatever death and suffering she caused is nothing compared to the deaths and suffering her work will prevent.

Id say fair enough. Its awful but whats done is done and at least something good came out of it.

While what she did was wrong, it would be even more wrong to not utilize the results of her research. I find her killing off her husband to be very questionable. Like it makes me think they they began to have marriage issues and she was worried hed contact some authorities and get her experiments shut down.

The amount of people saved is several orders of magnitude greater than the amount harmed, so some moral systems would say what she did was the right thing.

I mean we literally did this with the research conducted by the Nazis after we captured it in WWII, so I don't see how this is different.

Unfortunately the simple fact is the absolute best way to get results for cures for humans is to experiment on other humans. It's why we use lab rats as live test subjects, because they have similar makeups to us and experimenting on living creatures gets better and faster results.

Except as usual you never actually read anything anyone writes just so you can go on your pretend moral high ground rants. I never said I condoned it or it was a good thing. I'm simply acknowledging the reality of what is. I know reality tends to be a confusing and difficult concept for you, but trust me, the rest of us understand it just fine.

I would question the validity of her findings. When you test new drugs or vaccines on people, it is preferable to use people with no prior conditions so you don't taint the results. The people she had been abducting will almost certainly have conditions that would taint the results.

I'm sure the medical community will do that and there will be years of clinical trials and other red tape stuff before the cure is approved by major medical bodies and big pharma.

However her cure does work and passes all that guff in this scenario. Unchanged from day 1 of her reveal.

Sounds like the episode of Criminal Minds I watched today where this guy was abducting people and cutting their legs off against their will to "perfect" his medical experiment. I'd call the police.

the U.S. brought in a bunch of Nazis into NASA and other government programs after WWII. Who knows how theyd react to her.
