Mine did and it had people with Naruto headbands and 1 guy wearing a Goku yukata or something. It also had this 1 fat chick that constantly told everyone that her hobby was writing fanfics. Like she literally would just blurt it out in conversations with random people without appropriate setup or context.

I think some of them Naruto-ran in the hallways too between classes >_____>

My school's anime club was just people on the computer. And no I was not part of it.

nah, but we had an Asian/Pacific Islander Club that some people joined for those reasons.

iirc, white, black, Hispanic, etc. students also joined.

my son did japanese in high school for 4 years; his class had 8 students; he said half the class was fairly normie, the other half were mega-weebs. all of them enjoyed manga and anime.

No, I don't think so. I think any club had to be sports, music, or school productive stuff/extensions of class stuff.

Either way the closest thing to an anime club was either like the art clubs, (which very few anime fans joined iirc) and basically a bunch of the scene/emo kids in launch talking about their anime superpowers and just a few years too late for deviant art drawings and shit like that. That was basically the actual anime club.

I was kinda part of that but I never made friends there besides the girl I was dating.

Clubs were mandatory once a month but I think they did stuff together after school sometimes. I didnt go because not even they liked me

Nope, not much people at my highschool was big about it at the time. It was seen as only dorks and nerds who enjoyed it and masturbated to it. Then again I attended a highschool in the south, so that experience is probably different from a highschool from the city.

I was the only person in my groups open to nerd culture (not Anime tho). So, I just kept it to myself. We definitely didn't have Anime clubs. I'm like 98% sure

Mine didn't, I was in HS from 2004-2008, anime wasn't as big or accessible then as it is now. There was no legal streaming and if you wanted to watch anything not on TV you had to put in enough effort to find fansubs etc. There were a handful of kids who saw all the stuff Adult Swim aired, liked Bleach and Naruto and played Yu-Gi-Oh but that was about the extent of the anime "fandom" at my school.

I checked my school's website though and apparently now they do have one.

I don't think so. Anime wasn't that big here at that time. Dbz and sailor moon were the only ones I had even heard of. Oh and pokemon of course derp

I doubt it but it's possible. Other than pokemon and digimon my first experience with anime was a few years after high school. I'm not even sure I knew what it was, though I feel like I had to have known.

Well what happened?

It's not that interesting. Went with a friend. That particular day, there was like no teacher/supervisor. The kids were literally Naruto running around, jumping over desks, and making enough noise that another teacher came and ended it for the day.
Also, this was so many years ago that I'm probably misremembering

No but my college did have an anime and gaming club. It was pretty awesome hanging with bigger nerds than I was. One section would have a Smash tourney going on, while across the room folks would watch AoT on a large projector screen.

I miss those days.

Reading some of these anecdotes, maybe anime really was a mistake afterall.

I only learned my highschool had one when I was in my last year there. I never attended it so I don't know for sure but it was super small and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the first year it existed

Met my wife in anime club. It wasn't very cringey and actually did a decent job of explaining anime history, tropes, and introducing new anime. This was in the 2000s.

Did and yes. Back then, Naruto was the most popular anime. We'd get headbands and wear them various ways. We would watch movies every Friday, plan events going to conventions, anime art exhibits, daily discussions on current manga/anime, cosplay contests and more. We even had our school help us fund a trip to Tokyo, Japan. Wish my parents let me go.

Not that I know of. I might have joined it if they did, but I rather liked the computer club I was in. We just played Halo LAN the entire time lol.

I will say I do remember kids wearing the Naruto headbands and doing that cringey run, though.
