Had to move back a couple years ago. Was gonna be brief, but I've just ended up staying. I have a job that I'm moving up quickly. I just really like all the money I'm saving. I'm invest the money I save for retirement.

Oh, and I lived on my own most of my adult life.

That's real sad. Why don't you own a home by now? I do, and I'm 33.

Less than half of millennials in the U.S. own a home. By your definition, most of our generation is sad. Are you calling America sad, buddy? *raises dukes*

Not really. It's only sad if either you're intending to bring women there or get engaged and or married and continue to live there long term.

Especially looks better considering that you have only been back there for a bit.

This. More often than not a mortgage payment is considerably less than renting AND you end up with equity like this person said. Renting is literally throwing your money away.

I rented for a long time. Worked for me at the time. Some people just kind of prefer to rent.

To be fair, you can have the best of both worlds. I own my house, but the guy who built it is contractually obliged to do all sorts of work on it as and when it comes up.

While this is true, not everyone is trying to stay someplace for 20yrs. If your working someplace and trying to build up for a future plan then renting is best option if you plan to make another move within a few years.

It's subjective. Sounds like you're alright, though. It's the people living at home but also refusing to accept adult responsibility that are the ones to be condemned.

It's only wrong to delusional boomers and people who think like delusional boomers. Used to be multiple generations would live under one roof, but certain folks wanted more homes sold so it became taboo. Unless you're just mooching, it's totally fine.

I personally feel like somewhere in between. I have my own house (completely paid off) but it's through an inheritance.

I will admit a lot of my life feels like it was just gliding through rather than having to work hard.

I will say that it has become less of a stigma in the last decade in the US, although some people will still hold to it.

In certain cultures, children live with their parents all the way to being married. In America, the idea that a child must move out and become independent by a certain age is honestly a relatively recent one. Back when it was cheaper and easier to find one's own place and live on their own.

Nothing wrong with that, especially if your parents could use some help. I recently had a whole plan about moving out again, but something changed and i told my parents that I would never leave unless they wanted me gone.
My father is just getting older. A couple of weeks ago he fell out of bed and if I wasnt here then my mom would have needed to call the paramedics.

Nothing wrong with it personally, as long as you help out your parents.

Of course a lot of girls can be off put by it. Asian girls are more understanding since they tend to live with families too. If you get a gf, I'd consider moving out. Or when you two decide to live together.

This is great.

I am in a very similar scenario in life.
I wish I could tolerate my parents enough to live at home. I could have enormous equity and be ~halfway to very comfortable retirement now if over the last ~16 years I had spent any appreciable amount of time with parents instead of on my own.

good for you.
