Link is a different person in each game (aside from the few direct sequels). So there were left-handed Links and right-handed Links.

It's a good thing the goddesses of Hyrule are sitting on Nintendo's design committee so they always know to choose a right-handed Link when he needs to have dumb waggle controls.

Link is not a single person, it's several different people with the same name that lived through the series chronology, mostly unrelated to each other.

It makes sense that some of these people are left handed and some are not.

You know, if you have some "weird" trait like being left-handed it just feels nice to see fictional characters that share that little nuance of your day-to-day existence. But no, the right-handers are coming out of the woodwork ITT to defend their precious video game company and explain that they don't care, so why should anyone else?

I mean, there are tons of stuff to criticise Nintendo about, and believe me, I'm vocal about them, but this? Who cares man, it even makes sense in its own series context

I got TP on cube just because of it. TP HD on Wii U had link left handed by default iirc. I remember using ganondorf amiibo to unlock the "hero" mode.

iDOLM@STER deserves credit for introducing more left-handed characters into video games than any other series. Take a look at all the left-handed characters in Cinderella Girls alone:

Yeah you're right TC. I was 11 when TP came out and it was very disappointing to see my left handed guy defect to the right side. What other left handed guys are there in video games, even? Sephiroth? That guy from Fire Emblem Echoes?
