I feel like it's in a tough situation of being a long established series that appeals to a really hardcore competitive fanbase which makes it tough to justify a gameplay reboot.

But it's also clearly a series that isn't as popular as it used to be.

I guess a more ambitious single player campaign where maybe it's the same core gameplay with RPG stuff on top (they sorta experimented a bit with this in 5 with some levels and Jack abilities) and make the competitive multiplayer F2P. The latter at least is probably a guarantee since Halo Infinite seems to be going well.

5 is one of the best ones. Just iterate on that and add more rpg stuff like you said. And NEVER get rid of split screen

As for the ending of 5 just bring them both back somehow

Gears 6.

Marcus as the protagonist. Primarily for the ending of Gears 5 more than anything else.

Gears 5 tried messing around with some open-world gameplay in the campaign, but that ultimately devolved into we can continue the main story or we can find parts for Jack. And Jack was already OP early into the game so it felt like padding

I love that Hivebuster stuff though, hope it continues.
