actually that's not even how uber eats or doordash work lol

they don't choose not to deliver your order if you don't tip. do you actually think for even a split second that people who don't tip never get their orders delivered?

lmfao

DoorDash pays a base pay on every order. Lets say its $3. If you dont tip that means your driver sees they will make $3 which most will decline. DoorDash then increases the base pay on that order because it is cheaper to do that than have to refund the entire order. Over time they will increase the base pay until hopefully someone picks it up.

By the time that happens your food has been likely been sitting for a while because multiple drivers have declined.

That is how DoorDash works and anyone saying anything else is lying. I dont know about Uber Eats.

Thats exactly how it works, and has been mentioned quite a few times in this topic. Drivers can decline or accept orders at will, with no penalties for declining orders.

Last night while driving I had a $4 ping. Declined. 30 sec later, a $5. Declined. Then a minute later, $8.50, which I accepted.

Had I taken that initial shitty $4 order, I would have missed out on the $8.50. It literally pays better to get in the habit of declining as many shitty no tip orders as it takes - since there is no penalty - until you get a decent order. Any gamer would do well delivering, since thats really all it is - a game. Learn how to play it, and youll maximize the money you make from it. Do it poorly, and youll barely cover the cost of gas and wear and tear on your car, let alone pay for your time.

Let me post a quick reason why gig workers dont want tips abolished.

This is what I made in 2.5 hours of Uber driving last night. $98. That comes to about $40/hr. How many people in this topic saying get a real job are clearing $40/hr?

As the post above says if you play the game right youll make good money and youll make it easily. People didnt get into this kind of work to make $15/hr.

Because corporate America is stuck in 1950 of classism where you look, talk, and act a certain way to be considered a valuable member to society. And if you have a dirty job it doesnt deserve a living wage and you must live a deep part of town (dont want to be an eye sore)

the reason they get such high tips is cos they can exploit weak minded customers. a large part of it is playing the sympathy card "oh wahhhhh i signed up for this job that doesn't pay me. plz tiup"

How about you just leave the pay structure to the people actually working the job?

Nobody is trying to tell your job what to pay you.

See. Youre trying to compare to jobs that dont work. You think Im telling my or to make less money. But youre wrong. Im saying to just page you a wage, and you can still get tips. If my job said they would raise my salary and I could get tips from the pilots, Id be ecstatic!

And you realized youd be getting paid MORE right? Thats what I dont think you understand. Right now, most of your money comes from tips, right? Now what if you add those tips on top of minimum wage. That equals MORE money

Unlike your dasher job, mine pays more than minimum wage. So going to minimum wage for me would lower my pay. You DS her jobs pay nothing except for tips, right? Or if they do pay you something other than tips, its less than minimum wage. So adding minimum wage to your tips is how you get more money Basic math

No, the tips you will make will actually make it so you make MORE money. So whats the problem? Basic math.

Im off work so Im done going back and forth though. I rarely if ever dash anymore but if they changed the pay structure I would never dash again. Its a bad idea.

If youre getting both the same tips AND minimum wage, then the tips + wage will equal out to more.

$98.74 + no wage = $98.74

$98.74 + minimum wage = more money!

BASIC MATH!

I just want DD to stop hiding the tips so I can know what a full payout will be for once.

Would also be good if the services stopped calling it a tip and call it a bid instead so that we could get away from the whole tipping culture aspect of this.

Were never gonna get away from the services under paying, so theres no sense in even arguing about that. As long as customers are willing to subsidize, there is zero interest in the services to chip in any more than they have to.

Happy to answer any questions as well. I only do DD part time, but have been doing that and UE since last year, and GH a bit this year.

All the apps give a general idea on what to do when starting out, but you basically have to start combing Reddit, FB groups, etc to learn tips and tricks and such to make the most of it.

This is the first thing I would do is get on the dasher Reddit. Thats where I learned a lot of tips. A few basic things to make the most out of your time.

-Dont accept orders under $6. DoorDash has a hidden tip feature which means if someone tips over that amount it will only show part of it. The reason for this is so dashers dont nitpick orders. If its under $6 there isnt a hidden tip.

-Take orders that pay at least $1 per mile. The key to make decent money is being able to bang out quick orders. Piggybacking off that do NOT accept Walmart or grocery orders. It takes too long.

-Try to avoid orders that will take you out of your delivery zone. Lets say its 10 miles one way. By the time you get there the app may or may not send you orders since youll be out of your zone. This means you have to travel another 10 miles to even get orders to come through.

-Dont worry about acceptance rate. At all. Mine is like 20% maybe. Nothing will happen.

-If the food isnt ready when you get there then cancel the order. You dont get paid to wait.

-Dont stress about tool customers or restaurants. They can fuck off. You dont have a boss they cant do anything to you.

Those are probably the top five things I wish I knew when starting.

Yep, Reddit is your friend when it comes to this

-Take orders that pay at least $1 per mile. The key to make decent money is being able to bang out quick orders. Piggybacking off that do NOT accept Walmart or grocery orders. It takes too long.
On this point, only thing I can add is to get to know your market. Youll see on Reddit that some folks swear by $2/mile, but if your market isnt great that might just not be possible. But even in a poorer market, $1/mile is doable. Once you get the hang of it though there are other factors you can weigh out when choosing to accept an order or not. Are you delivering to a house or apartment? How is the pickup restaurant? Etc.

And yeah, Walmart sucks. Did one, never again. I actually requested from DD support that Walmart orders are blocked for me, and its worked out great. No regrets.

On the other hand, dont be too scared of shop-and-deliver Red Card orders (Walgreens, Dollar General, Meijer, etc). A lot of times they end up paying decent and the shopping aint bad.

-Dont worry about acceptance rate. At all. Mine is like 20% maybe. Nothing will happen.
This x100. It cant be said enough times in this topic, it pays to decline. DD will promote the Top Dasher program if you keep your acceptance rate high, but it isnt worth it. If you find yourself with an AR >30% and are making decent money, then congrats, youre in a great market.

-If the food isnt ready when you get there then cancel the order. You dont get paid to wait.
One thing to note here is that you do want to watch how often you cancel. Cancelling after acceptance, but before picking up the food, will reduce your completion rate. If it drops below 80%, DD may deactivate you. Its pretty easy to stay above though, just keep in mind that you should be canceling (unassigning) no more than every 1 out of 5 orders.

I try to stay around 90% just to have a decent buffer before dropping to 80%

Why is it petty to respect our time and potential earnings?

Fuck that mentality. That's the reason I hate our live to work culture. We're conditioned to accept shit because "that's just the way it is". We're expected to sacrifice personal time, personal gain for making some CEO and company money while we get table scraps, long hours and a pittance in the form of measley PTO and sick leave.

Why not? As was mentioned in post 432, a 5-10 min wait is normal and most dashers would go ahead and wait, but if its 30+ minutes then forget it. It just isnt worth the time (unless there was a super generous up front tip or something that did make it worth it).

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Uber Eats. DD does have a cap on how much you can cancel (20% of the time), but UE does not. If you order a lot through UE and find your orders being dropped, that is likely why.

You get paid to pick up and bring the food, you dont get paid to wait for the food. I dont get whats confusing about that. Thats exactly why the app allows you to cancel if its not ready.

Also its not a job. You dont get a W2. Youre not an employee. It is gig work.

Your opinion honestly doesnt matter. Someone is using their time and gas. If they want to cancel for any reason they can. As much as people in this topic have been bashing drivers I dont feel bad for any of you.

How about shutting the fuck up

It is a disgusting level of entitlement to try to tell a dasher or anyone how to do their job. Its not really a job but same concept.

Do it yourself or shut up.

You have to pay taxes on capital gains and that isnt a job. Its optional. Its not a traditional job whatsoever.
