Is tipping before a service an American thing?

No, it's normally after, especially in dine-in restaurants in America. But the apps have you apply tips before the order is placed, I think. And apparently, drivers can see the tips you plan to give before accepting your order. However, Uber Eats always lets you change the tip after the order is delivered.

Maybe give a slightly higher tip, then give your actual tip afterwards if you need to save money. Make sure you give your actual tip if you feel your service was bad btw.

Restaurants aren't like Walmart where a shoplifter can go in buy some stuff and steal others. If you are going to steal to-go orders at a restaurant you have to specifically go to do that and likely only be able to do it once. There's also no way of even telling what you are going to get as you would have to rush in and grab whatever

Frankly there are much more productive ways of stealing food

You could just claim you're an Uber driver. This has been done before and it works. That first time would be an almost guaranteed theft.

Sure, you have the option not to tip but they have the option not to deliver it. I dont get why people that are so skilled have a tough time grasping this simple concept. Youre playing roulette just as much as the driver is.

Its not a job. Its contract work.

Something to note about this is that apps like Uber Eats actually let you adjust the tip after the food is delivered. You could set a normal tip and then change it to 0.01 if you wanted after the food is delivered.

This probably exists to punish bad drivers for doing sloppy delivery jobs, but it is very exploitable.

When I was dashing I was doing it on top of my full time job. A lot of people are. But sure theyre lazy. They probably work more than you do.

Those reasons arent DoorDash or dashers problem. Its not charity.

If they are doing it on top of their real job, than they shouldnt complaining as long as they are in the positive. As long as they arent losing money, it should be good And trust me when I say they dont. Before now, I was working 2 jobs. One starting at 6:30 in the morning and I would get off around 4-6 in the afternoon. And the other job would start when that one ended and went on about 11 at night. Didnt even have enough time to work the second full time anymore because of my first one. Now I work the first job, but I do it for more than 8 hours a day. So, I highly doubt they are working more than me. Especially since it seems like many are just leaving over half the jobs undone because of low tips

The dashers are part of the problem since theyre leaving food. And this wouldnt be a problem if they got paid a minimum wage

That depends on a lot of things. For example, how much they are making now vs how much they would make at minimum wage. For example, I know one woman who works it here. And she says she doesnt make much. But she does it for the little she makes, plus she spends some time with her daughter. She would benefit from getting paid minimum wage. Not to mention tips would still be allowed
