All other Pokemon stories are a 1 except Black/White. Red/Blue gets a 2 for being the original beat the 8 gym leaders, elite 4 and the champ.

Not too much to cling to in terms of story, but the world-building is pretty insanely well-down for a first go-around. It's a charming little kids' adventure with enough stakes to keep things interesting.

I saw the show first so for me it was a thrill to fight Gary Oak, Team Rocket, Brock & Misty etc. Was only missing Jessie and James. Loved how fleshed out all the cities were with the various townsfolk.

I was gonna say 5 at first, but I actually like the way the game has a subtle plot about Team Rocket, there's the cool Mewtwo/Mew lore, and the Rival makes for a fun sense of progression and late game "twist"

The game obviously isn't much about story but it does achieve what it wants to do in that department. Blue is good, Team Rocket is fine and adds something more than just grinding to the top through what later became the formular for all Pokmon games. The lore about various Pokmon, particularly in Cinnebar Masion is quite amusing. So yeah, we end at a 6 because nothing is bad, there's just very little story.

The most memorable dialogue is "I liek shorts they're comfy and easy to wear!!" and that's from a rando named Youngster Ben.

The characters are more memorable for their design than anything else, in part because of how minimally involved most of them are in a game with a silent protagonist and practically zero character development. That said, they do still have some personality - the same cannot be said for most generations. Gary Oak is definitely a standout. And some of the locations felt fresh at the time.

In future generations, the bad guys are done with more complexity; the only thing the story here has going for it was that it was the first one, the blueprint that was serviceable enough to fine-tune. I think part of my rating is nostalgia tbh, but that's fine.

I was ready to give this somewhere around a 2 but Ive been convinced, it is alright. Despite the actual plot being very thin it has great worldbuilding and some story moments were good as well.
