Current Events > Who was the best 'surprise protagonist' in a video game? *spoilers?*

I'm speaking specifically of games that are like "You expected this person to the main protagonist but actually it's this person or there's another protagonist to play as" and not just moments where you play as another character for one or two stages.

I know Locke was the only one here was that marketed before release but I feel like his role being bigger than the Chief was overall unexpected.

Desmond is also unique but I think he counts since he technically is a main protagonist that frames the entire story.

I thought about Ass Creed 3 but that was only an intro thing to set up the antagonist for the rest of the game. I didn't think it counted.

I'm glad I dont watch trailers and read every bit of gossip. That was such a surprise to me. Too bad the game just goes downhill from there more or less.

I'm confused by the example tc put though, what is he talking about Desmond miles? How is he a twist?

Well, there is a pretty cool Desmond sequence at the end of that game, which is what I thought you were referring to, and I actually voted that.

either one would likely be my choice otherwise.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone say they like Connor over Haytham lol. It feels like the game goes out of its way to make Connor unlikable, whereas Haytham is basically just Ezio who people already loved.

Hell, I think Haytham is the main reason people started to unironically like the Templars. He was that good.

People didn't know about any of the the Animus until the game came out.

I think I know the one you are talking about. I did forget about it but funnily enough I think it's the one I hated the most.

I remember wondering wtf at MGS2. The demo and everything was geared for Snake and then it was a different Snake
