I worked at Kmart when I was in highschool. It was such a shithole. I was a cashier and they tried to get me to clean up the bathroom after a classmate of mine bricked in the sink. I quit on the spot. Fuck that place.

KMart began dying when the restaurants in the corner were removed, and died harder when ICEEs left.

The Kmart in Liberty Missouri was a treat when I went there, and the one on 24 highway in Independence was an event, back in the 80s.
They were always more expensive than Walmart anyway.

We lost the main K-Mart in LA county back in 2011. Crazy to think it's already been 10 years. Now it's a Walmart Neighborhood Market

I worked returns at kmart for a while for extra cash while in college in 2013-14 and yeah that place was falling apart. I had applied for sears and was shocked they placed me at a kmart when i thought they were extinct even then.

The property just can't be sold for some reason.

Also I've wondered the parking lot and found old pull tabs from Coke or Pepsi cans.

That was pretty crazy because I know they've been there since the late 1970s.

The great shame in all of this is that Kmart also killed Sears along the way.

Like I grew up with Hill's and Magic Mart lasted up until 2018.

Forgot who Rose's is connected too.

Now Burke's has showed up.

Bought like $100 jeans from them for like $15 because some threading was a little off.

When it was impossible to find an Xbox 360 at launch, which was also shortly after my father's death, I talked about it on a tiny DOA site, which I joined through here. Somehow there was a member that was from a tiny town near me, that had one postage stamp size Kmart, he said they had one and low and behold they had one. Greenwich New York really came through for me that day. I really needed that at the time. Only a few weeks or so earlier, I was the one to find my Father DOA, on the floor.

I always feel like I'm the only one who liked Kmart. In my hometown, the closes walmart is over 35 minutes away and we didn't get a Target until I was teenager. As poor kid, Kmart was where I got toys, games, clothes, shoes, backpacks. I happened to be in town right before it closed a few years ago. Seeing basically empty was like seeing an old friend on its death bed :(

tl;dr, Kmart expanded into Australia partnering with an Australia company, and that Australian company bought out US Kmart so has been unaffiliated with the American brand for awhile now. But Kmart very much exists in NZ and Australia.
