Places like fanfiction.net outright prohibited fanfiction of her IPs out of fear of litigation. I have no opinion of her beyond that. If nothing else, I hope she didn't suffer - and I mean shit, Interview with the Vampire got a movie starring Tom Cruise. And even despite the copyright controversy, the fact is that she's an author with name recognition in her field, which for anyone is a big deal. I said it the first time I heard about her passing - what a life.
