pegusus123456 12/15/21 3:30:49 AM #1:	The background is that Critical Role, the most famous D&D stream on twitch, premiered a new intro last week for their new campaign which is set in a Middle Eastern-inspired continent called Marquet. The intro is intentionally cheesy and overdramatic and pretty obviously inspired by Indiana Jones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpdh5S9myc4 Someone on twitter was "uncomfortable" that the all-white cast leaned heavily into colonialist visuals in a campaign inspired by SWANA which is apparently an acronym for Southwest Asian and North Africa because apparently the phrase Middle East is racist. https://twitter.com/EvilCleverDog/status/1470047264290783237 Keep in mind that the cast was actually worried enough about doing something offensive in this setting that they hired a consultant to vet the setting for authenticity. Apparently that's also not good enough because, due to CR's popularity, Marquet will be THE go-to standard for Middle Eastern D&D settings and real people of color will just be accused of copying it. https://twitter.com/EvilCleverDog/status/1470886547004215300 My favorite bit is when Brian Foster, an associate of CR and fiancee of one of the cast members, jokingly responded to her tweet, he was accused of harassing her by siccing his followers on her.
