I loved the main game as a refinement and improvement of the breath of the wild formula, so I bought the dlc when it went on sale

Dont know how they fucked this up so bad

first dlc is a logical continuation of the main game, you play as your character and play a series of more challenging trials similar to the main game, and further upgrade your character. But they made many of the challenges extremely hard to the point of being frustrating,

second one is a completely new story, you start from scratch and play basically a 6-7 hour reskin of the base game with a new character and smallish open world. It has nothing to do with the main game and adds nothing new to the formula

third one is a continuation from the first story dlc, but you start from scratch again with a new character, and for some reason they made it a pseudo-isometric gamebut designed the game like a normal 3D world and then just locked the camera in place so its hell to navigate. Plus its basically a full-on sequel, probably a solid 20 hour standalone game and I dont know why they didnt just release it as such.

i know nobody will read this but I wanted to /rant

Wow that sounds weird as hell, I was thinking of picking this up on a decent sale.

Good to know about the dlc.

I think the base game was really good. It was basically the middle ground between like, Assassins Creed and other open world collectathons and Breath of the Wild, that has some of the things people like in both of them.

I've also had a ton of issues with the Switch version, but absolutely nothing when I play it on my Series S.

Haven't played the DLC so I can't speak for that.

I think its a good 8/10 - its not better than BotW or like Assassins Creed, but is right in the middle ground so its a fun and unique experience.

I would agree with most of this assessment but I came away liking it more than a 8/10, it was a GOTY contender for me

one controversial thing is the game is loaded with puzzles; the open world has a bunch of block/rolling ball/switch/timer/etc puzzles and completing those is how you progress and power up your character. So it really depends on your patience for that sort of thing. Personally I thought they were a lot of fun and a good chunk of them were satisfyingly tough to figure out. But many who didnt expect it to be so puzzle-centric came away disappointed

I loaded up Watch Dogs Legion to finally play that Aiden Pearce DLC (he still is a shitty character btw) and it had a zombie coop mode I had no idea even came out.

Ubisoft DLC is often weird as shit. I guess in a way it's good because they experiment a bit more but it's still usually rather meh.

I forgot to mention the puzzles, that's a good thing to bring up.

If you thought all the shrines in BotW didn't take the puzzle that was introduced far enough, Fenyx does a great job of introducing the puzzle and concept, and then properly testing you on it (more so than in BotW often) - though this can go too far somewhat often, especially if you don't like the puzzle, not to mention the hidden "bonus" puzzle for an item that is never worth the effort (and the effort is usually frustrating instead of a good challenge)

i would say at least that its a pretty solid value for the cost of the season pass, especially since I think they dropped the price (or its on sale all the time)

literally all theyd have to do would be patch full camera control into the 3rd DLC and I think they couldve gotten away with releasing it as a full sequel to the first game (at the very least, one of those $40 mid-quels companies do sometimes)

It's like a less original BotW that's worse in most ways but still fun enough. Decent

The puzzles are by far the worst part. Way too many of them back to back and repetitive

watched a review of the dlc and they commented that they felt the dlc was cut content from when they weren't sure what direction to take the game. that why they are all stand alone.

I feel like part of it is, they all came out so close to the release of the original game, that Im pretty sure it was three separate teams that made each one. So theres no cohesion

Got another (big) complaint about this final dlc

like the base game, you cant interact with chests/objectives until no enemies are targeting you

but in this, since the camera is locked in an overhead view, enemies can target you from off screen.

and every enemy encounter triggers waves of enemies. So if you come across three fodder enemies on a path, once you defeat those two mini-boss style enemies might spawn, then a third wave

had to bump the difficulty frown because its so fucking tedious fighting waves of damage sponge enemies every 2 minutes in a game ostensibly about exploration and freedom
