I don't understand the meanness in this thread. Yes, it was silly of him not to get vaccinated, but what has happened to the man is about as horrible a thing as you can have happen. Nobody deserves to suffer like this.

We should have empathy for this man and all living beings.

But many of the people hand wringing in situations like this the most certainly have the least empathy in all other situations and are generally the type to say things like play stupid games, win stupid prizes, and fair next when bad things happen to most other types of people who did not willfully ignore all of science for two years and then find themselves in the exact situation that was warned of.

It is subjective and you might be one of the people who do think animals are worth more or are equal to humans. If so Im not going to try and change your mind. Ive had pets and cried when they passed more than when some humans I know have died.

And yeah sure people will probably be more willing to euthanise animals than humans for various reasons. Dont doubt that. But I think the option should be there in specific cases. We already have end of life pathways for cancer patients at the very least this should be expanded to other terminal illnesses.

Nah, I'm not, but I do know my fair share of people for whom that would be true.

But yeah, I agree that humans should have more "end of life" agency than they tend to have.

A fate worse than death, trapped in his flesh prison and having his words ignored by his very own family who considers this a blessing.

That said, he probably won't survive more than another year. The rate of death for people in the year after a stroke isn't all that good, and when you're paralyzed and had two strokes like this it means even an otherwise meager cold turns to pneumonia and then death.

Makes you reflect on the human condition more than anything. From time to time I find myself thinking at least it's not Polio or something worse that these morons are deliberately spreading in some sick game of one-upmanship or because of overwhelming boredom.
This is pretty close and it's about as morbid as I imagined. You do have to wonder if there's a voice in there shrieking "Doesn't count! That was two strokes, not just Covid! It doesn't count!"
