It's a huge mistake what they are doing. So a universal DH is coming and expanded playoffs. Why go through a brutal 152 game season if you still get a bunch of .500 scrub teams getting in and maybe getting a lucky streak at the right time? The playoffs are supposed to be for the best teams. As far as the universal DH goes, I don't like it but I guess it's coming so I'll get used to it. Instead of having a distinct style of baseball between the two leagues, it will all be the same. ... I hate expanded playoff opportunities in MLB. With most sports, its a shock when a last place team beats a first place team, but in baseball, the worst team can take 2 outta 3 or even sweep a 3 game series against the best team, and it isnt a shock. Its just in the nature of the game. The full season grind is a big part of determining baseball rankings, and short series can very much be a coin flip. By adding more teams to the playoffs, you arent necessarily weeding out the lesser teams as the playoffs progress youre just adding more coin flips. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran ... the disagreements aren't over expanded playoffs and the universal DH. the biggest issues between the two sides are economic, largely player compensation when it comes to service time. it's currently slanted very heavily in the owners' favor and of course those greedy fuck owners don't want to give that up --- https://i.imgur.com/hLHUnOI.jpg You act like I don't know my own way home ... I don't sympathize with the Owners but small market teams rely on young, drafted talent that they grow and develop over time. Let's say the Royal's scouting staff hit the jackpot and find the next Acuna or Soto and sign them right out of high school with a big, 7 figure signing bonus. Then they spend money on them throughout the minor leagues and teach them how to play in the MLB. If you were a Kansas City fan, how would you feel if that player immediately signed with the Yankees or Dodgers as soon as they hit their stride? The system is already tilted in favor of the big market teams, but little teams like the Rays still make the playoffs because of good scouting, coaching, etc... If you were a Kansas City fan, how would you feel if that player immediately signed with the Yankees or Dodgers as soon as they hit their stride? the Rays just signed Wander Franco to a humongous long term deal. teams will always have the decision to extend or offer security in long term years to players they want to hold on to. i am not advocating for the removal of the draft process or service time altogether. all i want is for players to be paid what they are worth. right now the system incentivizes teams to get as much out of their players as they can while they're still making pennies compared to what they're worth. you have players who are playing like MVP's making league minimum. part of this is the rapid advancement and investment in player development in recent years by most organizations. you could argue that this is a benefit to the players as a lot of these advancements improve their performance, but the goal is to constantly have a supply of cheap, underpaid players replacing the older ones as they get more expensive --- https://i.imgur.com/hLHUnOI.jpg You act like I don't know my own way home ...
